I’m picturing the mineral streak one but without that full length mineral streak and I’m really liking it. I like those types of tops and really like mineral streaks as well but that particular streak is just way too prominent for my tastes and imho dominates the entire aesthetic of the guitar. Afaic Mineral streaks should enhance not dominate a burst top. Well that’s my 2 cents

Mineral Spanish cedar, actually..

SC doesn't usually have such strong mineral streaks. That piece was rather unique.

I first said "spalted", but there's not heavy enough streaking for that.

I choose my blanks for light weight. The great thing about Spanish cedar is, you can still often get body blanks near that magical 2.3 lbs bd/ft.

Of all 6 of my Desert Star guitars,.. not one is heavy at all,.. even the Tele with the B-bender is under 8lbs.

Fretboard of the first one is just ugly,.. second one would be fine without the ass crack mineral streak.

Mineral streaks and freckles are fine,.. i like them. But when it's a foot long and thick,.. nope.
That’s not what she said….

I knew someone would take advantage of that line,..

That thing looks like an ass with stretch marks (figured maple). I can’t be the only one who sees it,.. the round bottom bout with a crack that hasn’t been wiped in years.

Just me own brain I guess.

I think the mineral streak looks really unique and I would buy it if I was in the market but at the end of the day it’s your money your choice.

Mineral streaks done right.

Is that rhythm Jr yours?

I’m totally digging mine.

There’s no way a Jr should do Jazz this well.

But I guess it’s not much different than a Tele neck pup for Jazz.

I think my next build will be a rhythm Tele.

I’ve got a body and neck, just need a bridge plate without a pup cut out.

Or I’ll just screw a flat plate in place of bridge pup…:hmm:

Need help deciding on one of these two - the wide flamed ultra heavy burst weighs 8.5lb feels and plays great & looks AMAZING ! - the heavy aged Mineral Burst (as I’ve named it) weighs 8lb plays ‘absolutely killer’ but I’m not sure on the heavy mineral streak (although I do really like it) - one is like showing people what you spent your money on, the other is like, listen to what you spent your mo eh on ! - which one do you prefer

I am not fond of "heavy aged" or really any 'aged' except maybe VOS, so my choice would definitely be neither. Although, that really wasn't the question, was it? Okay, so if I had to choose, it would be the Mineral Burst. So, yes, I am okay with the streak, and I hate the excessive wear on the left body bout on the first one. So ... are these both new heavy-aged R9's? If not, what models and years are they?
