Helping the wife with some stuff with the chickens. We were talking about the orphan hen that we brought in a couple months ago that never could join the flock.
Stayed ostracized, and always hidden in a corner someplace to avoid getting picked on.

One of the established hens in particular was brutal to her. Once the straggler gets weak, they all attack her.
Wife went out one afternoon last week and found her bloodied and dead.

Even among animals as non-threatening as laying hens, the pecking order is real.
Even which hen roosts where.
Ain’t no gettin’ around it.
