It's a tough time to sell higher end guitars. Economic uncertainty, apparently. I have had a pristine condition LP R0 on Reverb for 5 months and had barely a nibble. AND it's priced low (for Reverb). Interestingly enough, since the recent truce in the trade war, I have received 5 inquiries in the last week! So maybe people are getting interested in buying expensive guitars again.
During the last several months I have considered taking my guitar down to the local high end guitar store (Dusty Strings in Seattle) and having them sell the R0 on consignment. By my reckoning I would get about $500 less than I would get on Reverb, if I got my $4500 Reverb asking price (as far as I can tell Reverb is going to take 8%) then I would end up with $4140. The guitar store says they would sell it for 70% of MSRP which is $4769, then take 25% of that, so I'd end up with $3576.
My point is this: Yes you get less money consigning the guitar at a fancy guitar store, but you also don't have to DO anything: no answering people's inquiries about the nut size, the neck depth, gloss or satin etc, no packing of anything, and no shipping. That's kind of a big deal, and especially when you are talking about selling several guitars.
Best of luck to you, Sir...
