So we as a couple want to downsize our house soon. We want to move toward retirement-LOL! (I will never retire). BUT_ I have a 2000 sq foot studio, with isolation booth, control room and performance area (15X 30) All isolated - . If i move I need some guitars gone _ I have a lot. they are all American made , top quality > Where is the best place to sell hi-end ($ 3-10,000) guitars with success. Not confident it's Reverb.

I know of a few guitar shops who have bought entire collections, but they certainly did not give top dollar for the pieces.

To get good money, it’s going to take a lot of work on your part.
How many individual sales are you looking at? I can see where it could be overwhelming.

It's a tough time to sell higher end guitars. Economic uncertainty, apparently. I have had a pristine condition LP R0 on Reverb for 5 months and had barely a nibble. AND it's priced low (for Reverb). Interestingly enough, since the recent truce in the trade war, I have received 5 inquiries in the last week! So maybe people are getting interested in buying expensive guitars again.

During the last several months I have considered taking my guitar down to the local high end guitar store (Dusty Strings in Seattle) and having them sell the R0 on consignment. By my reckoning I would get about $500 less than I would get on Reverb, if I got my $4500 Reverb asking price (as far as I can tell Reverb is going to take 8%) then I would end up with $4140. The guitar store says they would sell it for 70% of MSRP which is $4769, then take 25% of that, so I'd end up with $3576.

My point is this: Yes you get less money consigning the guitar at a fancy guitar store, but you also don't have to DO anything: no answering people's inquiries about the nut size, the neck depth, gloss or satin etc, no packing of anything, and no shipping. That's kind of a big deal, and especially when you are talking about selling several guitars.

Best of luck to you, Sir...

My wife says there’s no space, I say, I’ll make space.
But if you agree, pros and cons to the options, but I’d prefer local and for cash.
Consignment makes sense in some ways

Offer them up right here in the marketplace.

You're more likely to get a serious buyer here than the usual online markets... but you WILL get plenty of lowball offers.

This sensibility applies to my parents, who have both passed. Their home is filled with high end antiques. But without a buyer...echo the phrase, gonna take a lot of work...

on the guitar thing, i went into a shop a couple years ago. I was going to sell a piece. The store owner advised me to go elsewhere. He had just received 2 massive collections from 2 local players who contracted cancer, and died.
( i brought it back home, where i'm playing it regularly, and happy i did).

to the op: If it was me...sorry hon, you may want them gone, but, i may choose to keep them (at least some of them, anyway).

Faith in the American economy seems to be at an all time low. Perhaps too much chaos. A lot of people don't want to turn loose of money for high end luxuries during such times. Until things settle down, you may either have to keep them, sell them for far less than you would want or consider trading them. Maybe you can trade several for one special guitar.

Lol. I have a really hard time with this thread because I frequently forget other people may have healthy relationships. I automatically thought.........

Needs new wife (I see others did too).

As mentioned above this is a hard time for selling anything non essential. Especially items on the higher end.

I appreciate the feedback- and the snide comments! LOL. She's a good lady- I just have a lot of stuff and I do need to pare it back. I haven't done much yet- I did list a Private Stock PRS / Wood Library guitar on reverb. Not sure it will sell there- seems like a lot of them out there sitting. There's a new guitar shop in town as well I may check out and see what they say. I am not in a hurry, so private transactions are probably in my future.

Maybe back when Reverb didn’t kill buyers/sellers with taxes and fees. Customer service isn’t nearly as good either. Just feels like this has happened with everything lately. Prices going up, service going down. It sucks.

Sorry to get off topic. That’s a great question. I don’t know where the best place to buy/sell high end stuff is anymore.
