meh, I looked into it. didn't need to send them anything they didn't already have. I guess it depends on your state. Didn't send my SSN, no driver's license pictures. I need Reverb to sell my stuff. I'm amassing cash to pay for legal shit, after I'm done I won't give a flying fuck what Reverb wants to do.

Yeah I've been completely done with Reverb for over a year now and I don't miss it. I can sell locally, here, and on TGP. The only thing that I use Reverb for is to do a big search for something and then contact the store that I want to purchase it from directly. I hardly even use it for that anymore though, as Google works just about as well these days.

It's all fun and games until you go down the rabbit hole of the double slit experiment and start wondering why quantum physics makes absolutely no fucking sense unless it's all just a simulation.

I believe it’s some new legal requirement that they have to comply with. I’m guessing they would rather not, but they have no choice.
Correct. So there being new owners have nothing to do with it.

It could be to cut down on scams and disputes.

Reverb was sold not long ago.

I was/am hoping for some improvements over the Etsy reign.

Reverb was acquired in April 2025 by Creator Partners and Servco, a company with ties to Fender. Servco is a majority stakeholder in Fender. Reverb now operates as an independently owned company.

All good thing fade away, though.

The CME years will never be beat, imho.

I have a $250 million idea, though, if anyone is feeling ambitious. :thumb:

Its not a credit check. Experian and the like also do identity verification. And yeah, the IRS is certainly interested in large cash transactions, but mostly for money laundering investigations rather than taxes. Hell, I have had to fill out IRS forms making large cash deposits at banks when we would have tons of cash in the register at work. If they aint getting your SSN, they aint pulling your credit

Here’s the thing:
I don’t launder money.

Do you have a suspicion that I am laundering money? Then cuff me, stuff me, and charge me.

No?
Then leave me the fuck alone.

It astounds me that hardly anyone thinks twice about the erosion of personal liberty.
In the Information Age, the “information” is not intended for you or me.

That’s why I pay cash.
For almost everything.

they look for volume and patterns. High end instruments are a great way to wash a few grand, but it takes a lot of those transactions across multiple platforms to clean millions. If they see the same people popping up doing lots of large online transactions it gets flagged. Selling a half dozen guitars over a year isnt gonna be noticed

Was a major hassle trying to buy a Prius for the daughter.
Interstate, so we couldn't simply buy it for her with a loan and have our names on the title.
Salesman could not fathom that I was wiring over $20k out of savings to him... kept asking for ID and stuff to put me on the title.
"Dude, I don't need to be on the title, I don't WANT to be on the title. I'm paying you cash on her behalf"

He finally figured it out when his bank contacted him and said "Give the kid the fucking car"
