Pete Rose is eligible for the HOF…

First, let me quantify my opinion by stating that I don’t give a flying fuck about professional sports.

I wasn’t even into it as a kid.
I thought it was silly.

By the time I was in my early 20s, and living in Houston, I had to put up with all of the nonstop bullshit with the Oilers, the Astros, the Rockets, the Houston police, the TV news media, all the radio stations, the newspapers, and my mouthy coworkers spouting off stats and stupidity - and watching these entitled thug-ass fucking criminals get away with shit left and right.

THERE WAS NO ESCAPE.

Every year since, I hate professional sports just a little bit more.
And it makes me oh-so-happy to know that my tax dollars help support that shit.

NOW … after getting that off my chest.

I’ve never understood why a Hall of Fame was a popularity contest.

It’s a competitive sport.
You got the best numbers?
You’re on top.

Don’t like it?
Don’t care.
Go beat the guy’s numbers.

If the guy is a criminal, throw his ass in prison. But if he has the best numbers, no argument in the world against him will hold water.

I’m supposed to be OK with the guys I work with taking steroids prescribed by their doctor to make their dick stand up.
I’m supposed to be OK with everybody smoking dope.
I’m supposed to be OK with white college-aged and college-educated women (mothers, no less) taking psychoactive meds to “cope” with a mean, mean world.

I don’t care what you do.

I'm not sure which disgusts me more, the actual cheating itself, or the tolerance for it. The more I think about it, it has to be the latter. Because if there was not the latter, the former may cease to exist.

Folks can rationalize it all they want. It's cheating.

The ban was "lifetime"... there is a difference.

As for Rose vs Bonds... Bonds was banned for performance enhancing drugs (and ya, he wasn't the only one using).
That had a direct impact on the outcome of the game.
Rose never bet against his own team, which was the only way his gambling interests could have impacted the outcome.

All the 'Roid-Boyz' should be permanently banned from baseball.

The Houston Astros should have their World Series win revoked.

Tom Brady and Bill Bellicheat should be banned from Football.

But, this country embraces cheating, lying, and the perceptions of impropriety. People have become emboldened to do whatever the fuck they want, because there are NO consequences.

And, as such, we have become a nation without integrity and honor. Joy, huh?

NFL is pretty much the same with added manipulation from the league offices. Football stopped being interesting decades ago.

MLB is (was?) still a boy's game played by men. Cheating ruins it. Pete Rose played the game harder than anyone. But he broke the rules and got his ass thrown out. it's a cryin' shame, but it is what it is. He gambled on the game while in uniform so he's gone.
A hall of fame shouldn't be just about the numbers, that's just a list. No better than a excel spreadsheet. A hall of fame has to be more than that; it should be about people that made the game better. Be it by stats, influence, personality, whatever made baseball more than it was without them. That's why guys like Harry Caray are in there.
If they stick a cheater in, it's a turd in a punchbowl.

"Cheating" in baseball with the use of "performance enhancing drugs" started at the end of the 19th century. If we're going to get rid of all the "cheaters" all of the HOFs are going to be smaller. Rubbing is racing.

What it is, is an indictment of our acceptance for lying, cheating, stealing, and lack of morality.

The irony is many of these same people profess to be "people of law and order."

But the point of the news is that he is absolutely now going to be eligible to be inducted. Now, I personally think it’s ridiculous and an insult to his memory, so I hope they don’t. The guy was a fucking legend, his stats are his stats, he deserved it. The haters won, it doesn’t matter anymore.
