Walked out of the local shop with this stunner earlier today - it’s a M2M (made to measure) ‘68 Les Paul RI with ‘54 pickup specs (alnico V + p90) and a watermelon/black finish. Whoa this thing sounds and looks incredible.

The alnico V has that lovely scooped mid thing with an articulate bottom and top end that sounds quite ‘woody’. The pickup + the maple top gives 50s Gibson archtop vibes in the neck position. Middle is quite sparkly and pretty, again great note definition. Neck p90 is pure spanky and full-spectrum Tele tone.

Love this unusual combo!

That’s absolutely BAD-ASS!

Welcome to the M2M Club!

What is the neck profile?

Thanks!

Neck profile feels like a a medium-large ‘59 to me, but I’m not sure exactly. It’s not slim and it’s not a baseball bat - reminds me of ‘59 335 reissues I’ve played.

Wow! That is an unusual combination! I guess someone really wanted a 54RI, but wanted the “snap” of a maple top!

Is there any indication what year this M2M was completed? I’m guessing post 2014 since it has wafflebacks.

Oh, and to definitely confirm that a 68RI was used as a canvas for this M2M, are you able to measure the headstock angle?

I bought it new, it was just made in January 2025. It is indeed a ‘68 RI headstock!
That’s pretty unique! I love my 68RIs, but I really want to add one of these to my arsenal, since I have no P90s, and I think they’d be quite inspirational for me…

But that may have to wait. I’ve also been on the hunt for an “all gold” Les Paul Standard…

Then I “should” be set.
