My wife had a Kia that was a very good and reliable car for the most part. It did develop a problem after a few years with the engine. We took it into the dealership, and they called us and said they were replacing the engine. I heard this was a very common thing with the Korean cars, they just replace engines. Maybe they have worked all that out, I don’t know. I appreciate the fact that they took care of it the way they did, but it scare me away from them after that.

I'm good, bro. I don't mind us being 'a third world state in a third world country'.... Not at all..... Uncouth, uneducated, disease ridden, coal footed inbreeding miscreants down here.... Folks need to stay away what with that and all the daily natural disasters and critters that will kill you just waiting to ambush yo ass when you least expect it....

Yeah, folks need to stay away.... We are beyond redemption, rehabilitation, and all around doomed to extinction in the coming years with all the rampant radiation contamination in the soil and water.... Them scientists say it may be safe to be here by the year 2350....For up to a few hours before mandatory decontamination procedures and a full regimen of iodine infusions and massive antibiotics.

Stay away. We shut....

OK, motherfucker. That's it.

Our next trip down to Jurassic Park (FL) is going to have a detour over to your place. We all going out for dinner.

Closed my fucking ass. :laugh2:

Hyundai/ Kia had a big problem with some specific engines that cost them dearly in terms of reputation and money. Seems the biggest cause was from their Alabama* plant that wasn't properly cleaning debris from the engines and would cause damage or failure in a fairly short period of time. It looks like that is in the past and they produce some really nice and decently reliable vehicles especially for the money.

Reliability ratings are different depending on which one you look at but it appears that overall Hyundai is near average at worst and better than some brands that you would expect to be higher.

Toyota and Honda, two of the most reliable brands over the years have had some quality issues with some of their line recently.

*Car manufacturing quality in Alabama will greatly improve as thousands of people relocating from California and Texas settle into the state.

I haven't read all of the nonsense (my apologies  ).

The Ionic is highly regarded as being a fun to drive electric car in comparison to most.

********

Regarding concerns for quality: I had a very intelligent work mate who would proclaim that she loved her KIA.

This was 10 years ago when they offered unlimited mileage warranties. She had the motor replaced multiple times! under that warranty.

She was always driving a different loaner: "Oh, hey, new car?"

Her: "Nah, they are putting a new engine in mine..."

Me: "Again?"

Her: "Yep."

She eventually told them she wanted a new car (Sportage?), just make sure her payments stayed the same. :eek2:

I had to bite my tongue.

This was in WV and I was surprised how many women (maybe people in general?) bought things based on monthly payments.

I had a Kia for commuting purposes. The engine died at 48000 miles. They wouldn't honor the warranty. Fuck Kia. My ex had a Hyundai. We went to trade it in and nobody would give us anything for it. Nobody wanted it. A good friend of mine drives a wrecker. He made a post of how many Hyundais he had to pick up broke down. He even showed a picture from the dealership of a pile of motors that had been replaced. No thanks

Theta II engines replaced under warranty unless voided. Problems were in the past and cost Hyundai/Kia billions.

1. What caused Hyundai’s engine problems?
Faulty design in the Theta II engines, particularly connecting rod bearing failure and insufficient engine block material strength, were the primary culprits.

2. What models were affected by Hyundai’s recalls?
Key models included the Hyundai Sonata, Santa Fe, and Elantra from 2011 to 2019. Many Kia models with similar engines were also affected.

The ex's Hyundai was a 2001 model. I tried to trade it in in 2004. The POS Kia was 2010. The friend's post of the stack of Hyundai motors was last year

Daughter #1 got a new Telluride (her 2nd one) last summer, after the pricing insanity calmed down.

I remember looking at it and thinking, "This is really nice. And, it's about $20K less than our MDX."

She had nothing bug good luck for 4 years with her old one. I expect that she'll get the same from this one, too.

While they are distinct brands, Kia and Hyundai vehicles often share platforms, powertrains, and components.
