Great guitar...I have a 2002 model with the scn pickups. I ended up selling my entire pickup assembly and replacing it with David Allen Hot 54's with a Hot '59 in the bridge. I found it to be a decent improvement if your after a true vintage tone. Another mod I made was to replace the tremolo...
I've made my fair share of PRS comments since joining this board a couple of years ago...I've warmed up to them, but still not enough to own one...yet. When you mentioned that PRS sounded like a Tele, well you haven't played a good Tele. A Tele is used for every kind of music and you'll see so...
For the record...I do like PRS guitars despite my complaining about them. One day I'll pick up a Custom 22 CE Bolt-On...I'll change the pickups if it has the Prs HFS pickups in it.
For my guitars:
I tend to stick with stock pickups in my guitars until I hear something that's more to my liking. Recently I replaced my noiseless Strat pickups with David Allen Hot 54's/ 59, turns out it was a great decision...it's very Strat vintage sounding.
I find Gibson pickups to be...
^^^^It's funny that you would use a car analogy to describe the difference between PRS and Gibson guitars....I know people that own Chrsyler 300's and fancy BMW's and they've all had problems with both of those cars, some had major problems.
Keep in mind I like PRS guitars, however my advice...
Congrats on your Dr.Z Carmen Ghia...I have the Dr.Z Z28 and love it. I use mine through a 1-12" open back cabinet and for different tones (think Bassman) I use a 4-10 cabinet...these amp are tone machines.
With all the amps listed as models....I've played through many of the real amps that I listed here at one point or another in the past 25 years:
1957 Fender Champ
1957 Fender Deluxe
1957 Fender Twin
1959 Fender Bassman Reissue (4x10)
1965 Fender Princeton Reverb
1965 Fender Deluxe Reverb
1965...
I bought the same amp recently and posted my thoughts about it...I didn't get allot of love here on the board. It's a great amp!!

Congrats on your new Les Paul!!!!
If my second guitar was a Les Paul...I would have saved allot of money. Instead, I tried every pickup combination in my Strats looking for that LP sound...I finally gave in a bought a LP. Now my Strats sound exactly like Strats and my LP gives my all those...
Mexican made Fender guitars and amps are simply an affordable way of getting people introduced to the Fender line...there's nothing wrong with them. Every company should (unless they already have) follow Fenders lead. One day those same people will either buy a US made Fender guitar or maybe...
I enlarged the screen on my iMac and you're right...that's a Gibson.
Looks like he's playing a PRS in this video:

I've had a hate/ love relationship with PRS...my initial grip was with their overly hot pickups and not the build quality, but that was almost 20 years ago. PRS has excelled in the guitar market where so many other guitar makers have come and gone...PRS is doing something right. Watch some...
