Some of you would have seen the Damascus neck mounting plate I made for my recent Strat build.
Of course I forged a large billet of Damascus, and the neck plate used only an oz or two of it. This is what I made with the rest of that Damascus billet...
Warning: it’s not a guitar
Thats how I feel. I didnt love any of this Strats predecessors. Loved the looks and feel of the last couple, but didnt like the tone of any of them. This one has grabbed me on all fronts. I wont be sellin this one :)
Ive never been in with the super strat crowd, never owned one, but if I had I probably would have assumed the tonal difference was due to humbuckers as opposed to single-coils
I'm only 55 so my brain is still (hopefully) moderately plastic, and still capable of learning new stuff and/or...
if youre swapping the entire pickguard you're only talking about the output jack hot and ground, and the bridge ground, so you're talking about 3 conductors.
A molex wire to wire connector might be more sturdy than the dupont?
Well here we are at the end.
As I remarked in the "guitars you built" thread, this is my first alder body Strat, and damn. Anyone that thinks the wood doesn't affect the tone of an electric guitar is just wrong :)
I totally love the way this guitar sounds. WAY better than all that came before...
For those that think wood doesnt affect tone in electric guitars, I've built 8 Strats. The only difference between this one and the previous 7 is the body is alder instead of ash. everything else is the same. pickups, tuners, bridge, electronics, all of it. Well, except the hand forged damascus...

While steel is glowing hot i put that against it and smack the back end with a hammer and it imprints right into the steel. No need to engrave :)
So happens I can heat it up and brand wood too, but thats not its primary purpose :)
I also have...
Didn’t have as much time as I wanted tonite, but I got the whole body sanded up to an even 800 grit and it’s as flat as I can make it.
Tomorrow I’ll go straight to the buffer and hopefully 30 minutes or so will see it done. Then I can get to assembling.
I also put my brand on it...
I don’t believe that naphtha would do that to nitro.
I use Mohawk exclusively on about my last 12 builds and I wipe with naphtha all the time and I’ve never had any issues like that.
What brand naphtha? Is it actual straight naphtha or is it like camp fuel or lighter fluid that you think is...
Here’s now it worked out:
No sacrifice necessary.
This carbide burr...
Created this chamfer in about 4 seconds per hole. The fact that the steel was hardened didn’t matter. The carbide is harder. That’s what Matters.
The screws seat perfectly and dead center.
I sanded the...
