    My (first) Build Journal

I'm Curious, Did you ruin the inlays with a heat gun? By catching them on fire? Like I did once... I ended up building a whole new fretboard because it bowed and destroyed it while trying to take it off. All the inlays went up in flames like a fuse does when you light it. It was "kinda" cool...

    ‘56 Inspired LP Build

Your attention to detail is incredible! Thanks for sharing! I'm excited to see how turns out! I wonder, how do you trim the edges off of the sides of the neck to get flush with the fretboard binding? Your attention to detail is incredible! Thanks for sharing! I wonder, how do you trim the...

    Nitro and Humidity

slightly off topic but relevant. Has anybody ever used blush or retarder to fix a crack in the nitro finish?

    The Definitive Top Carve Thread

Dude, Thats amazing! I'll be using these templates on my next build. Thanks so much for the time and efforts you put into making these. I always thought with Scott's templates that it was hard to get the recurf right. It was a little wider than I've seen in photos of actual 59's. I even modified...

My First 59 Les Paul Builds

Here is a little update on the three Les Paul's I'm building... I have two of these done, and the third is about to get its neck shaped up and ready to attached.. I used Parsons in the first one and Lindy Fralins in the 2nd. I will use antiquities in the third. Some photos and notes... I...

My First 59 Les Paul Builds

I have made some progress on the first of these 3 Les Pauls. Finally got it set up, and boy, 200% more resonant than my studio LP. I cant believe it. Its been a learning curve with spraying these aniline dyes, shooting them correctly, and getting colors right. I had some small craters / dye...

My First 59 Les Paul Builds

My guess would be the third one from the left....? The Far right is exactly what I'm after, a warm glow of honey. That wine red is beautiful too. The more of those that I see, the more they grow on me. What a cool picture!

My First 59 Les Paul Builds

Thank you Frank! I will test it some scraps and go with that once I'm confident. That will be easier to judge as well. I can shoot light coats of yellow until I reach my level of good, and not have to guess. One of my worst fears is ruining the look with too much yellow.

My First 59 Les Paul Builds

I used pure aniline. Mixing the two scared me because then I don't know how much yellow, is too much yellow... I suppose going over the top after its faded with colorfast yellow will not hurt or drastically alter the colors in the burst?

My First 59 Les Paul Builds

I believe the fade in this sample is pretty close to what I'm after. I hope I didn't just get lucky, and can recreate it. If anything Id like the honey to be a bit darker of a brown, and the yellow just hair more vibrant. Can anyone tell me if my final amber coats with make that yellow...
