FAKE 1959 Gibson Les Paul guitars and the factory ledgers. A Wall Street Journal story 7-10-2020

Well, I know I am a month late to the party, but I am just so SLOOOOOOW with my video editing. Finally finished my "in-depth" look at this ledger search. Thanks @eric ernest for letting me use your pics. I also used some photos from an awesome '53 conversion that @Jumping@shadows did on...

Purchased new September 2018. Sparsely played, never gigged. Has pick marks on the guard, but other than that it's super clean. KILLER 2-piece Mahogany body with 3D figuring. This was a Limited Edition that year, has the pre-CMI "Script Logo" and "Only a Gibson is good enough" on the back of...

FAKE 1959 Gibson Les Paul guitars and the factory ledgers. A Wall Street Journal story 7-10-2020

If a company is on shaky ground and everything is going to get tossed or liquidated anyway, what a better time to go ahead and just start taking things, right? Especially if it's just a little old dusty ledger. That's why I think there is a good chance it was stolen, because someone knew how...

FAKE 1959 Gibson Les Paul guitars and the factory ledgers. A Wall Street Journal story 7-10-2020

@Red Pharoah 1961 is when the records start again for solid bodies. It was that year that Gibson changed their serial number system (impressed numbers starting with 3 digits through 5 digits). As far as we know that record was never missing. Thanks for sharing the photocopy. From what I am...

FAKE 1959 Gibson Les Paul guitars and the factory ledgers. A Wall Street Journal story 7-10-2020

Here is a copy of the section in Tony Bacon's book that I had mentioned above:

FAKE 1959 Gibson Les Paul guitars and the factory ledgers. A Wall Street Journal story 7-10-2020

As a "2nd Generation" Vintage Guitar Nerd this story has me breathing heavily and drooling all over my black T-shirt. Looking for some clarification on the documents if anyone has some insight. In Tony Bacon's book about the V/Ex/Firebird, Walter Carter explains that there are actually 2 books...

Should I mod my 2019 Explorer???

Beautiful!!! May I ask who the builder is? Or are you sworn to secrecy?

    NGD: 2019 Flying V!

At this point it's for the love of it. You're getting a custom guitar that you did the work on, that's how I see it. I have a 2019 Explorer that I am about to mod the crap out of, but I was looking for a husk to that to instead. Already losing value on it, because I bought it new and resale...

Should I mod my 2019 Explorer???

Yeah, I'd say this is pretty accurate! I'm already invested, both in the parts and the "vision." Plus, I have this weird desire to work on guitars (who'd a thunk it???) If this thread was "I wanna paint my Explorer Purple and convert it to a headless 12 string with a vibrato..." I'd probably...

Should I mod my 2019 Explorer???

Thanks for your input so far everyone. Let me reiterate that this wouldn't be an "upgrade" in any way, in fact I realize that it could possibly play a lot worse after the mods. I am just curious what players think about it, either good and bad. Feel free to call me the village idiot! I love...

Should I mod my 2019 Explorer???

Haha on the Bigsby! I agree. Not a huge fan, but like the Maestro I think they look cool. I just like the Gibson Vibrola look better. I've read about the Vibramate years ago. I thought they had abandoned it? It's at least worth a shot getting in touch with I suppose. Thanks for the input...

Should I mod my 2019 Explorer???

I had a 2013 SG "Original" with a Lyre and the thing didn't go out of tune and if it did i'd give it that "snap" upwards (so I know what you're talking about!) Thanks for your input!

Should I mod my 2019 Explorer???

Do you mean string the vibrola through the stop-bar? No. I just took pics of it lying on the guitar like that to give some sort of representation of how it would look. I'd take the stop-bar off of course.
