I've owned five 83s and still have three. The most I can tell you is the specs on all of them make no sense.
By that time I think they were just grabbing what was in front of them and slapping it together. They're all great guitars though.
Now that you say that I have an LS past the stamp and stickers year that the person I bought it from said it's a 60 and it has a 17 degree. They did say it had a refret at one point so the easy nibs/no nibs tell isn't there either.
The specs are all over after 1980.
I like the feel of an aged neck over a thick nitro/poly finish, but it doesn't make me play any better. Neck shape, size, and edge rolling have way more impact on playability.

From looking at their website Larry now has a 59 PAF and in the description is says it's "undipped" which should mean it isn't potted. A5 magnet with all the other PAF specs the other nine million winders offer.
I've had multiple of their original 57s from the 80s, the 36th Anni's, Air Classics, and another PAF style they've discontinued. The name escapes me.
