Hey...I'm banned and can't comment (!), but try taking the back cover off and look at the switch. Sometimes one contact hits the wood and keeps the switch from engaging completely.
If the problem occurs in one extreme position (not middle) but not the other, this is a sign of mechanical interference.
If you're OK with your solution, it would be better to trim a bit off the bottom of the tip and screw it on tightly.
