You got it buddy, I'd rather be friends than argue anyways... I hate drama and life is too short. :cheers2:
Regardless of which specific year your guitar it's still one of the earliest years of the SG model and it's a damn cool guitar, and even cooler that you are the original owner. Enjoy it...
I agree with you (hey... look at that, we agree on at least two things! lol) I am doubtful that it's a camera angle issue as well, but I am hesitant to say anything about it for sure based on these low quality pics. Personally, I think it is down to sloppy inlay work but who knows. And for that...
I honestly don't know regarding the inlays. I will agree they sure do appear off center, but the pictures are very poor quality and I would want much cleaner high resolution pictures or better yet I would like to see the guitar in person to ensure this is not some sort of camera angle issue...
Here you go. I don't like posting full serial numbers so I blurred the last digit. As you will see the font is much larger than standard pressed numbers. The 2 from the first digit of the original number is extremely light and I can't get it to photograph, but it is touching the edge of the...
It's quite alright, Dolebludger, and I too apologize to you if I came off a little harsh. It's just that with the prices these guitars go for these days, I don't take the subject of giving advise and opinions as to originality or value lightly, as taking the wrong advise could literally cost...
You're right, we don't always agree, and frankly, I don't think we ever will (but that's ok, life is too short lol). I do agree that we need to see neck heel pics of the subject example though, as it's an important piece to determining the exact age and version of the model, which will help...
I've just had a lot of early 60's SG's in my hand and my eyes tell me that is not the wide 1 11/16 version. In addition it has a corian nut which came in with the narrow width. Lastly, the OP stated in another thread that this guitar "has a super narrow nut" which confirms what my eyes already...
Cool SG. It's not a 64 though. Could be late 65 or early to mid 66. The narrow nut did not come in until late 65 so I am quite positive this is not a 64. But honestly, who cares... it's still a cool guitar and as long as you love it, it shouldn't matter.
Uncle Butch... could you please post a picture of the back of the guitar where the neck meets the body (neck heel)? I'm very interested to see if this guitar has a very specific neck heel shape that only the very earliest SG's had.
Please also post a picture of the headstock damage you refer to.
To be clear, I'm not saying with any certainty the finish is original. I'm saying the serial number if original points to the earliest of the 61's and there are other features on this guitar that also support it as a very early 61. And IF (and it's a HUGE if) the serial number stamping is...
Factory black examples of early Les Paul SG's do exist and have been documented, however they are extremely rare. I would normally be one of the first to call this out as most likely being a refin, however this specific example I will not be so quick to judge as there are a few things I see that...
I've been getting these nagging popups for months now and it's really annoying. I have what may be stupid question though..... because I'm not a tech guy whatsoever.
If and when it force updates, what happens to all your installed programs? Do they have to be re-installed? That's my big...
Bingo. I agree, 1963 based on features and serial number with definite repairs to the heel and headstock (with added volute) and finish work. Looks like a great player :thumb:
