Mahogany SC-336 Build July 2017 (yes, another)..

Hi Lowatter:dude: Happy New Year to you, it finds me good and health has improved since having a tooth pulled that's been causing grief the last couple of years. Miraculously my sinus infection of the past year has also cleared up since.:fingersx: My worries over dust were getting a tad...

    CS-336 Clone, Scratch Build.

Thanks for inquiring about my health last week, and progress with the builds "Lowatter". I didn't realise this was the original 336 DC build thread and started banging on about the Limba SC version which is now nicely sorted out having swapped pickups. Then started banging on about "LP Tone" and...

    CS-336 Clone, Scratch Build.

Gone a bit of page with LP Jnr and Goldie stuff, but this has got my cloth ears tuned in a bit, a hem. Light weight 50's spec Goldie with revised (better) head stock for string angle, and weighs about 8.5Lbs. Sits better in the lap and chimes for ever, P-90's definitely work with a wrap around...

    CS-336 Clone, Scratch Build.

Its got worse! (Better) Darren's "Goldie" built to vintage specs and killer Tone, best LP I have played including mine, thanks VT Man. Nice, very nice....:dude: DC Jnr on the boards in ze workshop, then next up, one of these. Goldies are Tone Monsters ah hem.:thumb: Does the Who pretty nice...

    CS-336 Clone, Scratch Build.

Hi Lowatter, had some issues where the Limba Tone was a bit "too much" with Mojo UK Alnico 4 paf's. There where over powering mids and lows particularly on the neck p/up even wound down pretty low. This got a tad annoying and spoiling the Tone making it a bit harsh and lacking warmth...

    CS-336 Single Cut, Scratch Build.

I have found the "sweet spot" ah hem, at last..Apologies for my 10c last night but a striking difference between the 2 guitars, and the long tenon versus short makes a difference too! The short tenon cs-336 is suprisingly toneful and resonant despite being thinner and is spot on tone wise in a...

    CS-336 Single Cut, Scratch Build.

Paf Tone....Hmmm. I thought I had the new SC 336 in the "sweet spot" having sorted out minor nut issues etc. I did an identical setup on both the SC and DC version today, both have "Mojo Uk" vintage wound paf's but finding the alnico 4 set a bit harsh and overpowering compared to the DC336 with...

    CS-336 Single Cut, Scratch Build.

I dont know how I talked myself into a sound clip the other night, but seemed a good idea. I have been prattling about playing her in nicely, and just sounds killer on the bridge p/u and kind of addictive! Cheers, John

    CS-336 Single Cut, Scratch Build.

Playing mighty nice now, and in the "sweet spot". After filing down the slots with my old "Norman" radiused saw files which are not too agressive and made a hell of a difference. I radiused the exit to the tuners to a bell shape with larger files at the back of the slot for a smooth transition...

    CS-336 Single Cut, Scratch Build.

Thanks "Bend n Slide", she is playing mighty nice now, "valvetoneman" dropped by last week an beat me up a little over the nut n niggly intonation issues. (He uses nylon nuts btw, tricky to work but when right slip for heaven..).. Anyway, he is right, I dropped all the nut slots down to about...

    CS-336 Single Cut, Scratch Build.

I replied to this a couple of weeks ago, doing it the "Bob Bernadetto" way but pretty much the same, ending up with 1/8" ish at the rims. But more input helps and very similar dimension as it happens. :thumb: Thanks cmjohnson as it all helps, in a good way. On a different note, and after much...

Got to build another 18W Plexi combo man, they are killer with power scaling to get the good Tone, Man.:slash: Lovely demo today with the Jnr "special" n deffinately want one for raw P-90 Tone, nice and not "Jazzclub" ah hem.... On a different note, my SC-336 is also nice, but in a more refined...

"CMJohnson",Your natural finish and staining is killer, it is also how I pre-stain the top cap with water based stain, then rub back to almost white and leave some stain in the grain. Then spray a wash coat and ze burst with same colours, in lacquer, if so inclined...:thumb: Btw "Valvetonemans"...

Wow, a lovely top billet you have there, stunning figure and au natural. Very nice work man. Have a lovely LP jnr "special" sitting in the house, courtesy of forumite valvetoneman. This needs its 15 minutes of fame (sorry mate but she is lovely). Photobucket is playing up again and not...

Nice on Darren, :thumb: and a fitting description for this beastie too! Limba has a lovely chime and great sustain, I'd be interested in your feedback Darren as I am crap at putting it to words, all I know is I I like it, a lot. The chambering does not take anything away from the "sizzle" imho...
