The assertion that 59 PAFs were dark runs counter to what owners and reviewers of actual 59 Bursts are saying, and demonstrating on videos you and I can actually watch and listen to, which show these old guitars as having a much brighter, clearer, trebly sound than the modern day LPs. The old...
From what I understand, something in their recipe changed in 2018. All reissues were "upgraded" to true historic spec, with the plastics the aging and the general specs, which included the narrow tall (Jescar 50078) on the 58s and the "medium jumbo" on the 59s (whatever that is; unlike the 58s...
I really wonder where you find the extra height on those frets you installed (47_ _ _), because the stock R8 wire since 2018 is apparently Jescar 50078. In other words, narrower, but 3 thousandths higher than what you had put on there.
That'll surely be contentious, but here are my two cents anyway:
Americans are some of the most patriotic people out there. To many of them, anything "made in America" is inherently better, at a deep psychological level.
Fact of the matter is: I'd rather get my electronics made in Japan, my...
That makes sense. Why keep something you hardly use.
That the SV feels better than a Spark or plugins isn't much of a measuring stick; the only nice thing I can say about my Spark is that it's better than nothing and can roughly approximate several things (although not very well). As for the...
For the unfortunate case queens that get stickier, is there light at the end of the tunnel? Can it get there like a new one would or does it require any specific measures beyond the passage of time out of the case?
I don't have particularly sweaty hands, and while I generally prefer oiled or raw finished necks or satin sealed necks, I have a couple glossy neck guitars (two S2 PRSs) that I can play without them feeling too sticky.
My playing the new LP typically leaves the neck feeling gummy or dirty (as...
I'll measure the fret height and width on my 2019 R8 when I change strings, and report here.
Question: do we know for sure whether those 2019 guitars use Jescar or Dunlop wire, and what the wire spec would be (before dressing)?
The photo doesn't do justice. The whole binding is at least pink, red in a lot of places.
Doesn't matter. Guitar plays great.
My only regret is that I didnt get to pick this one out of a lot after trying them, which was something I thought I'd do for something this special. So I have no point...
Got this beauty today after having debated a Murphy Painted WW Spec (per other thread in this forum).
This one I could get in a F2F deal (albeit a 5-hour drive away each way), but it was worth it I think. Other than the binding bleed that's so severe there is barely a millimeter of...
What's particular about truss rods in these R8s?
How do you "check" it in both direction in the same sitting without messing up the setup on the guitar or risk bending the neck enough both ways to rcrack the binding or worse?
I'm going to pick up a new to me used (2019) R8 tomorrow.
Will be my first Gibson.
Anything specific I should keep an eye out for, beyond the usual? Any particular pain points or other more important due diligence items?
