Ideal rate of twist (MLP firearms and shooting thread)

Ruger has a plant in the small town near me, and they are expanding into another building for all the Marlin equipment they got in the Remington bankruptcy. They hired the old product manager for the Marlin line, and he is at work picking up where he left off. There should be some good things...

Hardigg gave us a bunch of those at my last job. They’re no joke. We used them for years, shipping and flying them all around the country, before any sort of refurb. If you’re not shipping yours more than a few times per year, it’ll hold up for a lifetime.

    NSXSD

That does look like fun. I bought my first SxS last year, but I had to go with the less-sexy type, as I needed a work buggy for around the house. I have about 600y of driveway, and about 1 1/2 miles of trails here at home, but 15mph is pretty fast on any of my trails. I went with the Polaris...

No worries. Next time, you can save yourself a bunch of work by masking off the checkering. The finish pools in the checkering, so it can build up quickly while you’re trying to fill grain. Put a single layer of overlapping masking tape over the checkering, and press the tape in tight around...

Sorry for bumping a post from a couple weeks back. I haven’t been on in a while, and was catching up on a snowy day. You can totally save that finish, Soul Tramp. The gloss isn’t bad, especially on that small of an area. It might even look better in gloss than satin, once you correct the...

    SNES Classic Mini

I did a retro-game setup last winter that ended up being a bit of a rabbit hole, but came out really cool. It started when I found two of these 3/4 scale arcade cabinets at Walmart on clearance for $50 each. I always thought they’d be cool for our basement bar/hangout area, but not $400 cool...

The concept hit me many years ago when I was shooting National Match. Dave Tubb’s writing instructed to avoid trying to fight the front sight onto the target- just accept that it’s going to move. Get as solid a stance as you can, and let the rifle move. That will allow some predictability to the...

At the risk of being contrarian (hey, I am what I am), I’ve never found dry-fire practice to defeat flinch in someone I’m working with. Flinch is a perfectly natural response to the body knowing something violent is about to happen to it. Dry-fire psychologically dodges the issue, but doesn’t...

First dinner, at the end of a LONG day, to start an epic trip.

After CO Springs and Denver, I had a weekend to kill before my next meeting, so I took a scenic detour to ID, via Cody, WY and Yellowstone. This happened about 10 miles east of Yellowstone. I mostly just drove through Yellowstone, but I did stop at Old Faithful at just the right time, and...

First dinner, at the end of a LONG day, to start an epic trip.

I was meaning to update this thread as I went along, but work and the sights managed to get in the way. I’m in Cour D’Alene for the next couple days, and get to relax, do some laundry, and actually look at the internet. When I leave here on Tuesday morning, I won’t have cell or internet access...

Cougar stalks man for 6 minutes during run

There were two cubs. You see one in silhouette, right about where mom came running from, but there was a second one kinda camouflaged against the grass in the middle of the road. Dipshit was actually getting pretty close to that one, and it even ran toward him when mama charged. Dude’s lucky...

    Not approved for occupancy.

The “mod squad” would “doink it” because you’re trying (and failing (miserably)) to veil at attempt at initiating a political discussion. Kinda like this guy: We used to be able to discuss politics here, and now we’re not. Why’s that so hard to follow?

Say the word if you ever get short on .300 WM brass, brother. What you get may be stamped “Barnes”, but it is Norma, too.

Butter Burgers, Frozen Custard, and Curds. The WI ones even seasonally offer walleye. I saw one in Charlotte, and I think there’s one in Raleigh. I so wish they’d build one in Greensboro or Winston-Salem.
