I finally installed the Mojoaxe tail...

and WOW! What a difference. 'Kate' is now intonated properly, and I can palm-mute. She's a player.

    Southworth guitars

Entirely possible. :) Which begs the question... how much were 'bursts selling for in 1983-1985? I know I could have bought a beautiful one around 1978 for about $3500.00 - but that was 10 times what every other Les Paul was going for...

Some guys dream guitar is a Burst, this is mine... ('54 LP)

Absolutely beautiful. I'd have a hard time picking...

    Southworth guitars

Sorry I'm so late to this thread, but I have lots of Gil stories from the 80's. Maybe the late 70's too. :) Most are alcohol-driven, all involve guitars, some feature both women and fisticuffs, and a few revolve around Danny G. I love the man to death. My favorite is us drinking heavily at...

Here's a three-fer with my "'54". But mine is a hand-builr replica. Still dig it though!

God, I love early Goldtops. I bought the Mojoaxe bridge, just haven't put it on yet. I hope it works as well as your Glaser!

The lack of neck binding indicates it is a very early '52 - One of the first Les Pauls built. I don't think anyone knows how many were built with no neck binding and the diagonal screws through the bridge pickup, but not many. Thanks to everyone for all the kind words! :)

Perfect day for pics... meet Kete (very early '52 - her name is carved into her back; very small next to the control cavity) and Shady - my '69:

    Meet Kate.

So... the first time I played Kate, my immediate reaction was that she was unplayable. All the stories about 52-52 LPs seemed to be true. Notes fretting out (theoretically because of an incorrect neck angle), couldn't palm-mute because of the flying trapeze tail, wouldn't stay in tune at all...

Yeah, 3-piece neck. Lots of things I've never seen before on a Greco... Like a scarf joint at the heel and a 6-screw control cover. WTF? I thought Greco only made the embossed-cover p'ups from '72 to maybe early '74? On, and even though it's hollow, the body sides are pancaked.
