Your LS-80 is the twin of my '79! I assumed that the finish is poly as it's pretty much in perfect shape even after all these years. If anyone knows for sure, I'd be happy to know the answer.
I replaced the bridge, thumbwheels, tailpiece and studs with aged nickel Faber parts. I much prefer the look and I like the Faber parts. I have them on all my guitars now. I believe the finish is a matte poly finish. Some people polish it to get more of a gloss, but I like the matte look. Enjoy...
I have a '79 LS80 and a 2021 LS196GT. I love them both, but the LS196 has somehow stolen my heart. It's almost the only guitar I play since I bought it some months back. However, I did do some mods to it. I replaced the wiring with traditional Gibson style wire, replaced the pots with VIPots...
I've decided to sell my Lazarus Les Paul, but first and foremost, I can't ship so I need to sell to someone locally here in Tokyo.
The guitar is rewired with VIPots, Russian paper in oil caps, and Gibson style wire, with Switchcraft switch and jack. I also replaced the bridge with a Faber ABR...
If you read through this thread you'll see that a lot of us made changes to our Lazarus guitars, including the tailpiece, bridge, studs, pickups, and so on.
You make a good point about the pickup height. I tend to forget about that. I need to go back and look at that particularly on the Lazarus. Thanks for bringing it up. Glad to hear that you're happy with the tones you're getting from your guitars and amps. Searching for a great amp can be a real...
Congrats on the guitar. I've been having the same thought about my Lazarus. I love the satin feel of the neck, but it is a bit more of a workout to play than my 2 Tokai Les Pauls, so I feel that spending some time on the Lazarus makes the other guitars feel a bit easier to play. It's not a huge...
I replaced the bridge on my Lazarus with a Faber bridge and I like it so much that I want to replace the Gotoh bridges on 3 of my other guitars. So this seemed like the perfect time.
I couldn't resist the sale. I ordered 3 bridges, 3 sets of steel tailpiece studs and one tailpiece. That will cover all the guitars I have that need updates.
