Anyone here from Gulf Breeze/Pensacola area?

I don't think I can take another winter. Winter (defined as months I don't want to be outside) around here is now up to 6-7 months in New York. I've had 543 feet of snow fall on my home, over the last half-century.

I need to get out.

I have some friends in Destin. A buddy of mine flew for the Navy and spent some time in Pensacola. Did a little fishing in the area many years ago. The sun was hot and the beer was cold.

I'm looking at Charleston, SC as a potential spot for colder months.

So I've lived everywhere in FL, panhandle is my least favorite area.

If I had to arbitrarily rank FL it'd be like:

1. South FL
2. Central FL
3. Greater Tampa, FL
4. Southwest, FL
5. Northeast, FL
6. North, FL
7. Panhandle

Cost of living varies greatly.

What about the desert? In Southern NM, we didn't have any snow this year. A paradise all year; we hit 90 today. Summers are hot and dry, no tornadoes or hurricanes eirher.

I'm really going through this too. I'm thinking about it constantly . I'm sure when my kids are out of school I'll be at least going there for the winters.
Gulf Breeze looks incredible.

My wife and I have a nice ocean-front lot on Garcon Point. It's just across from Pensacola on Escambia Bay. We haven't yet built a house as we've not ready to live there. We've had to replace/repair the seawall twice due to hurricanes!

We really like the area. It doesn't have the population problems of lower Florida and it's a very large military area. And we prefer the Gulf to the Atlantic.

A nice over 55 in Tampa is very appealing right now.
I'll have to wait a few years, but.......
Jersey sucks. Weather is finally around normal.

For the Gulf area I usually hit places like Cedar Key and Crystal River. I'm not much into the panhandle. Too many college kids forgetting that Spring Break ended. On the East it's usually St Augustine area. I don't go much further south. I only speak English so I don't fit in well :)

@bildozr, . Does the area get invaded by transient vacationers? I hate "spring break" people. Just the idea of them.

I'm not sure this helps, I've been down to Panama City 3 times and thats the only reason I went.....party with transient "spring break" people...

@Who That last statement sums it up my dude. It's Bama, it absolutely feels like a different state.
Just from living there, there's not a lot going on.

FL is always gonna get invaded during Spring Break, but must people don't make it past Panama, or Daytona, unless they're locals bringing friends back.

The only thing thing I know about Florida is I don't want to go back. Fort Myers was the most boring vacation I've ever taken and ruined the state for me. Went for a wedding. My dad lives there and I won't even go back. He can come up here.

It's right here that I mention my little beachside swamp in Qld. Love the place. 10C/50F is the lower limit. Snow? What's that?

dude, the southwest is the tits... I love AZ, Nevada, Utah (If you're dry it's great). I road trip down there from Washington state and I feel alive! In the summer it's the Oregon coast. Between these two areas, I can maintain :laugh2:
