Man, his head is huge.

His ego is pretty large also.

You are correct.. my head is abnormally large. I am a L/XL Flex Fit ballcap.
Ego is all subjective... yes I do have one... but I figure I've put in 15,000 of my 10,000 hours.. I've mellowed out though .. when told by someone "I met you in 2006/2007". My response is always... " Was I nice?"

Though many of us only "know" you from your many interviws/videos, and your posts here, I've never seen/heard anything that would suggest that you have any sort of real "ego". Even your responses (case in point) to the "haters" here are handled with extreme class, which is rare.

Nothing wrong with being extremely proud of your accomplishments (as you, especially, should be).

I, for one, really appreciate not only your skill, but your overal demeanor as a musician. Not to mention, your willingness to share your various "tone secrets".;)

I can't believe people would criticize Joe. Loved the video - he seems such a classy guy, and very humble. Great taste in guitars and amps too. He deserves the success he has got, hard work and blood sweat and tears.

I've never read any real ego from JB. Of course, he knows he's a very good guitar player. He knows that because of his dedication to it. False humility can almost be as bad as a huge ego, and I get neither from him.

John Mayer is victim of that as well.

john mayer is an ego maniac no doubt about it. even he himself admits he has a huge ego. he talked about how he worked on it but it seemed very insincere. the guy may have talent but at the end of the day, he's as hollywood as they come. that doesn't mean he cant be a cool guy but he loves the attention.

John Mayer has 1 or 2 Taylor Swift songs about him

He is a victim of his own ego and A list datings ways

Dating girls from here in Brisbane wont get you that attention

Might get you a song though

John Mayer should have taken James Valentine's advice back in the day. Much pain and anxiety could have been avoided.:D

Really enjoyed the video. I just stumbled onto it maybe last week watching tons of guitar videos on youtube. Great stuff and I like Joe comes by here and posts occasionally. Thanks Joe and keep on jamming and collecting!

Being a punching bag online unfortunately is part of the job description in 2016. People make judgements about your personality, ego and character based on a photo. John Mayer is victim of that as well. I am a guitar geek who happens to suit up 110 nights a year to be the other guy. Even friends whom I have known for years sometimes comment how different the two personalities are from stage to green jumper. I enjoy the forums and the information I learn and most of all people I have met through this place and The Les Paul Forum. Reverb did a great job of capturing what I am like 22 hours of each day. I didn't get into this to be a rock star I just love to play guitar and buy tweed amps. :jb:

Not that Joe needs defending, or that he can't defend himself, because he obviously can, quite well! :laugh2: But here is my experience through the years, from a complete nobody.

The first time I saw Joe he was opening for Skynyrd as a 3 piece out of a van in Toledo OH. I had never heard of Joe, and traditionally, most opening acts for Skynyrd get no love, and even some hate, because, well, Skynyrd fans. :laugh2:

Anyway, he came out and left to a standing O, with my brother and I wondering "who in the Fu@$ was THAT! We immediately went over and bought his CD. This had to be about 2001 or so when I was really starting to search for some great music, as all of the popular stuff had SUCKED for so long. I still have the ticket stub and CD, and it f#$ing rocks!

After that, I started checking out his music wherever I could, saw him whenever he was anywhere near Michigan, and saw him several times. He played smaller venues, and after one of the shows around 2006 or so, I had taken one of my Murphy aged re-issues to try and have him sign it. It was a really sh!tty night. Cold and misty. There was a line of about 50 people waiting by his bus. He came out, told everyone to hang tight, changed clothes, and came out and spent a fair amount of time with each and every person. Pictures, handshakes etc.. When I pulled out the L.P., he took genuine interest in it. He said, "I can't sign this, it's like a $5000 guitar!!!". He did graciously sign it, and couldn't have been nicer that cold sh!tty night. I was fortunate enough to see him a few more times like that, before he got more popular where it is extremely tough to get the "meet and greet" for his shows.

Fast forward several years later. I was lucky enough to get a meet and greet a couple of years ago in Grand Rapids. I took my 2011 R9, my #1, to have him sign. When I handed it to him, he gave it a good look and said "oh, chambered". It weighs sub 8, but is not chambered. I said "nope". Then he REALLY gave it a good look, graciously signed the back plate, and then I told him I enjoyed his posts on the forums. He asked who I was on the forum, and when I told him, he said, "yeah, I've seen some of your posts". He said "go over there and let me finish this and I'll give you the 5 cent tour". After everyone was through the line, we went back stage, he told me the story behind each guitar in the rack, AND let me play them, took me out on stage to show me the amps, go over the settings etc. etc..

The vibe was never Lord Joe to wide eyed fan, it was simply guitar guy to guitar guy. He took the time to explain certain things, share some stories, and have a laugh. The only time I drooled is when I held "spot"!! :laugh2:

After we were done, I was headed out the door and he was headed back to his dressing room. He gave a shout and said "hey, you know it would give your guitar a really cool vibe if you found some vintage grovers for it". So here is a guy who owns millions of dollars worth of gear, commenting on MY measly R9 well after I thought we were done with our conversation.

He had absolutely ZERO reason to give a fellow MLP'er the gear tour of his life that day, and I know of at least one other member that has had the same type of deal. He has no reason to do meet and greets at all anymore. With his growing popularity, the back of the theater by the bus is no longer an option.....he would be there all night.

Am I a Joe fan.....F#$K yeah. Don't like his music, his singing, his attire? Personal choice, and he will be the first one to tell you that. To degrade someone based on their looks, or accuse someone you have never met or had ANY personal interaction with of having an ego.....you are just a d!ck, period.

Is Joe a "friend", no. However, after meeting him on several occasions over the span of many years, from the onset of his career until recently, I can tell you that he is anything but egotistical. I can also tell you, his claim that he is just a true gear geek like the rest of us 22 hours a day is 100% true.

I am going to Chicago for a show and meet and greet in March. Cannot wait to see the show again, and I'm sure it will be a great experience like all of the rest!

Man that is a kick ass story, I appreciate you sharing it.

As for Joe, anybody who has a style difference with what he throws down is one thing. We all have our styles we like. To pop off about anything beyond that is just people being petty jackasses. Plain and simple.

Sorry I am going to miss you in Chicago Jon. I ended up with Milwaukee meet and greets and can only do one show before flying out to NYC for the Clapton gig. Would have been fun to have some beers.

I'll be hoping for even a little bit of the "tour" you got. Hopefully the only "vintage" item I own will open up the door a little, LOL. Let me know that secret handshake some day. Haha. I pm'd him here. Worth a shot! Enjoy the show. This will be my 5th and all of them are good. No openers, no talking. Just non stop music. Seeing the live show changed my opinion from that's kind a cool to that was awesome real quick.

Awesome... thanks for sharing! It was great to see Joe take time to give you the 5 cent tour and of course make the video of his gear that most of us will never see but only on the screen.

Love the video. Being in Detroit, the closest show is in Chicago, and I've got to be in AZ that weekend - damn! I see he's playing two nights the previous week in Pittsburgh. Anybody heard of the Benedum Center?
