What some of you call hotcakes and eat for breakfast, we call pancakes and have for dessert!

Having pancakes with sweet topping at breakfast is absolutey alien to us poor bemused Aussies!

I sat next to an American sergeant on a TWA flight home on R&R and they served us up hotcakes with maple syrup for breakfast with bacon & eggs!!

Fortunately the sergeant and I were able to do an exchange and both got what we wanted. A real exercise in allied co-operation!

So, do you guys really eat sweet stuff for breakfast?

While I'm here whats the deal with eating scones with everything? Biscuits you'd call them? We have those with jam and cream.

I wont even go near peanut butter and jelly sangers ( jelly equals jam in this joint)

Crazy mixed up mob!

I would probably eat them more if they weren't such a hassle and mess to make.

...melting butter, maple syrup, a cup of good coffee...side of bacon and hash browns and orange juice...and a cigarette after:laugh2:. I'm in.

It's not generally a daily breakfast thing Digger, more like Sunday morning with the family type thing.

if it's any consultation we don't understand how other countries have hot-dogs and beans for breakfast. that's dinner food.

matter of fact if someone put a plate of beans and dogs in front of me first thing in the morning I'd probably feel nauseous. I don't even like seeing food when I first get up, but definitely not greasy dinner food.

Damn I love reading about the differences in cultures! I live in Pennsylvania, and pancakes is the norm as far as terminology goes. Some say hotcakes, but not many. Kinda falls into the gray area like hoagies, grinders , submarines and so on. Sweet stuff for breakfast....FOR SURE!! Drench the pancakes in syrup with a side of sausage links, also drenched in syrup. Add some scrambled eggs to the mix, coupled with toast with jelly, and you've got yourself a great morning! Not sure what a sanger is...i'm guessing a sandwich. Peanut butter and jelly sandwhiches are kind of a main stay, something that is easy and cheap. Especially if you have lot of kids over for a play date. I still love em'! So no sweets at breakfast time......what about cereal?

Digger remember our society is ridiculously addicted to sugar.

it's in everything. (it's cheap fat...tasty)

even the hamburger buns at McDs are loaded with sugar.

It really is everywhere.

'merica loves cheap fat.

Sweet stuff for breakfast? Come on - aussies eat cereal, muffins, muesli, milo, toast + jam, raisin toast, yoghurts, Nutri-grain, it's all loaded with sugar & carbs. Top it off with a large flat white and two sugars. No thanks.

I don't get the blatant sweet and savoury thing - bacon and maple syrup, chicken and waffles. Bleeuhh!

Hot cross bun burgers all round!

Who eats hot dogs and beans for breakfast? I guess they didn't last long. Maybe the Minoans?

Digger, I made you some fairy bacon:

Not into sweets much, esp. not for breakfast. Have not eaten maple syrup since I was a kid, and I don't miss it.

Bacon, eggs, hashbrowns and toast is a fine breakfast. a 3-egg Denver omelet is a thing of beauty. Savory brekkie rules.

That said, a lot of the time I'll skip breakfast, eat an early lunch and call it brekky. Just the way my job rolls sometimes.

I was never one for hotcakes Digger, so I'll back you up on that. :)

...yeah...I'll stick with coffee. :laugh2:

and eat pancakes at midnight from IHOP/Dennys like normal people

They say breakfast is really important but when I wake up I have no appetite. Food is the furthest thing from my mind.

Coffee! Cigarette! P*ss! Brush Teeth! ...are really the only things going through my fuzzy brain at that moment. :laugh2:

Why is it when I hear the term hotcakes I think of small breasts?. I just spent the last 5 min looking up breast size and settled on A cup...not an entirely tedious job btw.
