That's a great and helpful review Liam, thank you very much for sharing your experiences with us ! :dude: Would you happen to have a way of getting a clip of these puppies out to us ?

You know, you and Bobbo here are going to be responsible for a void in my wallet ! :D

Oh gawd, sound clips on the internet...

I almost don't want to go there. I've heard ONE really good set of pickup clips. Ever. No disrespect to anyone else that has done clips, they give an idea of the tone..but it's just not the same.

I've never heard a recorded guitar sound like a guitar in the same room as me, especially not wound up through a decent amp. Good producers in really good studios can get close, but they tend not to nowadays (Glyn Johns was always good, and John Leckie.)

The last set of OTP clips I think probably got pulled. They just weren't representative of what the pickups sound like.

I'll continue to think about finding a way of doing it, but I just don't trust them, or the recording techniques that are used nowadays.

Wow, great review Liam! I know what you mean about the differences in bridge and neck positions: my Pat. #'s feel the same way.

I bet those things would roar through a 2203 ;) but the Bluesbreakers are really sweet amps.

I really think it's true that if you can get used to that exposed feeling, you'll become a more expressive player. I think of someone like Roy Buchanan, whose tone was as naked as can be, wrenching so much emotion and so many tones out of his Tele. I'm nowhere near that good, but I've had the same experience, and relearning how to play with so much clarity is always a good thing, imho.

Sounds like a great set of pickups. Before you think of a new OTP neck pickup, maybe it would benefit from raising the polepieces and lowering it a bit?

Actually it's 43 watts on my test rig (it's an early reissue, and they did put out a bit more than the current ones) A bit of attenuator can be a nice thing...it's just too loud for a small gig if you really crank it.

I fogot you had early one! Yeah they had more grunt!! LOL! Anyway man, sounds like the pups are killer.. I can't wait to get mine..:dude:

Mate, I love you!!!! I've done this with other pickups before, but never to such dramatic effect for such small changes.:thumb: Don't know what it is about these pickups, but they are as sensitive to setup as they are to the way I play.

Only tried through a headphone amp so far (it's late), but the neck pickup has now got all the bite I could ever want, and balances with the bridge pickup nicely still. No screws were moved more than half a turn or so.

Gabriel, thank you. I'll probably turn up late to work tomorrow so I can try this through an amp... Well chuffed!

Got me thinking about recording clips...

We must be related. ;)

BTW, do I remember you saying you only had a Tele and a Guild acoustic for a long time?

If that Guild was a '72 D-35, I think it's time we call in the X-Files.

My Pat. #'s are like that with adjustments. Just the smallest turn makes a big difference.
But for the road I'm starting to look for a #2, something less irreplaceable, and the pickups will be the hardest component to get right.

But you're making me get the "itch" for some of those OTPG pickups... :D

No it wasn't, but we'd better call in the X-Files anyway as it's a bit too close for comfort. Mid 70s D-25M, but yours was probably strutted in the back and mine isn't. Still my only acoustic guitar, but I've ended up with a lot electrics since.

Yes ... OTP's are very sensitive to height adjustment !!! With all these new OTP owners maybe we'll get some soundclips or Youtubes ??? :hmm: :D
