I've seen that pic before and there was some debate as to whether that was Page's. The cover shape and route seem different. There can't be too many Benderized LP's I imagine. It's quite a commitment to routing.

Even with the routing, mine still weighs 10-1/2 pounds. It was probably about 11 to begin with. I imagine e the steel in the bender offset some of the weight loss from the wood.

Fascinating; I love this almost Heath Robinson stuff.

Just so I understand what I'm looking at, it appears that the strap button is in fact a lever, (the hole in the body that it runs through appears to be slotted). When pulled upwards, the first lever pulls the long rod, which in turn pulls on the final lever, changing the tension on the B string. The spring also provides some resistance & returns the strap button to the "normal position. Yes?

So the pitch of the B string is altered by pushing the guitar down, whilst wearing it?

& why the B string; what's the significance here?

What does this sound like; can you tell me which track(s), this guitar was used on?

I take it the pup selector is redundant?

Sorry for all the questions; I have one of those enquiring minds!

Yes, that's bang on.

The bender mechanism was originally intended to replicate/fake the sound of a pedal steel guitar. AFAIK it was felt that the B-string gave the most options for 'steel-type' bends.

What does this sound like; can you tell me which track(s), this guitar was used on?

Not on Page's guitar. That gut shot is probably not actually JP's guitar (no extra strap button for instance).

:)

The pickup selector is fully functional. Routing is needed for
clearance of the switch housing if you are going to use an SG type 90 degree switch. This will clear the mechanism arm and allow for bigger bends. Mine has a regular switchcraft switch but there is a hole on the top side bout approx above the selector switch. It has a recessed screw which you can screw down as a stop for the internal bender arm. Mine is set where the arm just stops shy of hittin the toggle switch and is a perfect whole step bend. The song "All of my love" is a great song to play with a bender. I believe he used a B Bender tele for this song originally.

Here are some shots of mine that I posted in another thread. This first shot shows a view of the strap button actuator.

huw, DADGAD & hecube; thank you very much for all the information. That version of Thank You is wonderful.

DADGAD; I love the installation on your guitar; stroke of genius using a clear cover.

Man, I always wondered where that sound came from; it completely opens up what you can do with chords. And...

...there's a double bender?

so was Jimmy's main amp an AC30 throughout the 90's? seems to be the most prominent on stage amp for the Page / Plant shows.

I saw that this morning... It annoys the crap out of me that he claims playing with Led Zeppelin is not something he wants to do, but he has no problems filling his set lists with LZ songs these days when he plays live. It appears to me that he wants to be the center of attention and playing with LZ takes that away from him. he also seems to try and shift the blame quickly that it is not him that doesn't want to get together... its always someone elses fault.

However, doesn't page own the name to LZ? He should just start a new LZ with a new singer and move on from Plant if he wants to play and record...

I believe he only wants to do acoustic stuff with Jimmy at this point.

Hell I would go to an acoustic Zeppelin show

IMO - I don't think Page or Plant are even on the same playing field as JPJ?

that would definitely be easier on all of them, sitting down mostly, much less energy required. don't have to scream, etc., easier on the voice.....but can Jimmy still play Bron-Y-Aur Stomp like he used to? most of the acoustic pieces would not be as tough for Page to play as the solos he plays on the electric guitar. i think it would be entertaining....maybe they could do a 3 song encore at the end with all electric.....

meanwhile he plays the catalog with his band...allison krause...and everyone else...seems hypocritical to me.

I think Robert is genuinely proud of the catalog.

My take on it is that he wants to be the leader and he knows that there can only be one real leader in Led Zeppelin.
