I didn't see any "anti-gun crap" in his post.

As for allowing soldiers to carry weapons on post, I'm not so sure that's a good idea. What do you do when PTSD gets the best of one of them? Or when Junior discovers Dad's cool SAW at home and wants to impress his friends?

Weapons are returned to the armory for a reason.

I honestly don't know if the army has enough sidearms to issue one to every soldier. I remember when I was a contractor in Iraq talking to a few officers who had to carry M-4's because their unit didn't have any more 9's.

On topic, this shit is ridiculous. Last week we had some asshole around here walk onto a quarterdeck and take the POOW's gun and kill an MA2, people seem to be getting crazier or ballsier or both.

Sorry, it has nothing to do with anti-gun crap. The military isn't anti-gun, but believes strongly in firearm safety.

It's military policy for soldiers to be armed in combat zones. Otherwise they don't carry as the threat/need for weapons is slight. If the military believes this, why should it be any other way?
