We've had at least 2 big jets land at the wrong airports right here in the US.

I mean I can see the dinky airport they landed at, not knowing what to do, but how did the communication with the "real" tower breakdown that let them ever complete the landing miles away at another airfield?

If they can lad an airliner at the wrong airport with all the equipment and eyes we have on them here, then there is no telling what could happen to one "out there".

That is not terribly surprising. I feel a little bit sorry for them that the rest of the world is putting such intense scrutiny on them.

I believe it's Occam's Razor that says the simplest explanation is probably the correct one. So in this case the simplest explanation is that the plane went down due to mechanical failure and they just haven't found the debris field yet. But given all of the other side stories, chatter, and Gov't misdirection, even this is starting to seem very unlikely.

The fact that the "locating devices" went dead without warning and there was no message from the plane that something was wrong
leads me to believe that there was foul play.
The motor records, which are broadcasted in real time, seem to indicate that the plane traveled for a long time after the signal identifying it went silent.
The Malaysian gov't/army might know about a skyjacking and since they reacted in a poor way and eventually they "lost" the plane
(pilot crashed it into the sea, terrorists killed the pilot and crashed it, whatever), they're keeping silent.

I can see a movie with Nicolas Cage as a Malaysian air controler... (with his eyes ridiculously wide open when he realizes something is wrong).

The Chinese either successfully used there new radar stealth and now have the plane( which would explain the ringing cell phones Monday) or they shot it down, some very interesting things going on over there.. And alot of hush hush for a plane crash..

true story....

a buddy of mine from work went to Hawaii in 1992 over Christmas to be the best man at his older brother's wedding.
we were jealous as hell that he was going there and enjoying the good weather and beautiful wimmen and all that stuff.

after a few days a story showed up in the papers saying a couple of local men on a wedding trip had gone "missing" on a helicopter flight between islands in Hawaii.
they were going out for a day golfing before the wedding with a few other guys.

the chopper disappeared off the radar and nothing was ever found. no wreckage. no nothing.
a week or two later a postcard showed up at work.
" hey you suckers! i'm here in paradise. gorgeous women and amazing place. going to the other island tomorrow to play golf!. see ya!"
creepy and weird.
a couple years ago, i went to Hawaii myself.
when i got on the chopper to go for a sight-seeing ride i asked the pilot,
"you are gonna guarantee i get back on the ground in one piece, right?"
he said, "yeah, no problem."

It really is not hard to hide a plane. You can hide a 757 in a hole no larger than 75'; and a 777 is only, what, 20 bigger.

What is not widely publicized is the concern that the aircraft was landed somewhere for a later purpose.

The actions of the Malaysians is fairly suspect and the search area is amazingly clean.

I'm currently watching the news on TV, so sorry about the absence of links.

In a nutshell: U.S. officials believe the transponder was manually shut down.

The airliner flew for up to 5 hours before everything went dark. Apparently the engines continued to send data as they aren't connected to the transponder.

The United States Navy has dispatched a Destroyer to the Indian Ocean to assist in the search.
