Apparently gibson has sued (or threatened to sue) Warmoth for making lp and sg shaped bodies.

I won't be giving my opinion right now but am interested in yours.

They have allowed it to go on far too long, and dozens upon dozens of other companies make the same shapes--AFAIK, the bodies aren't where the problem is---The headstock shape is where its all at-

Warmoth makes a great product, and is no doubt taking away from Fender and Gibson's bottom line-They are the highest profile of the quality parts manufactures-

Every player in the country needs to send Warmoth a buck to defend the suit--

Piss Off Henry---I own several Gibsons---But I am really growing tired of your crap-

That's just the way the cookie crumbles.

The shapes can be considered the property of Gibson, someone else is making money of the shapes and thus it can be said taking away from potential Gibson revenue. I see nothing abnormal here, happens all the time in other industries. Not unjustified either in my opinion.

They have failed to act on this for over 25 years--They have failed to attempt to defend their rights to those shapes for far too long

And Gibson continues to shoot themselves in the foot. Good thing you're doing with that company, Henry. Real good job.

Bet Fender loves it, though. :D

True but that doesn't mean they've lost the right to go after infringements.

Doesn't Warmoth do a replacement neck that is endorsed by Fender or something along those lines?

Trademarks are trademarks. As far as I understood, the "open book" headstock end shape is trademrked. I dunno about the body shape. I know some makers make les paul looking guitars but reshape the body cutaway.

Warmoth doesn't make or sell LP shaped bodies. So far this is 50% false. :laugh2: Rats a$$ FTW.

Sure they do. They're calling it SC1 right now, but it's up there. And if you click any Gibson style shape you get their trademark dispute warning.

You're right. I always thought their version had a pointy cutaway. I stand corrected.

They tried to sue PRS for making a 'single cutaway' guitar. They did this because they knew PRS built a much superior instrument. It was thrown out of court. A handful of lawyers made a bunch of money off the suit.

Do they seriously plan to just sue everyone who makes something thats similar to a Les Paul? They have their work cut out for them.

Warmoth is a great company that makes outstanding products. I guess it was only a matter of time.
