I use 10-46 myself. :thumb:

Billy Gibbons story:
Well, the luxury of them slinky seven's is an out-and-out oddity to many, yet the notion of using a light gauge string was directed to me by none other than B.B. King,
who happened to pick up an axe I stuck in the corner strung up with some gnarly, heavy wire, and asked, "Why you workin' so hard?"

Yeah well, Reverend Willie's a bit of a "myth maker" so I don't take anything he says too seriously.
In other versions, it was Jimi tellin' him 'let the amp do the work'.

Loves the Rev. :dude:

I hope the OP doesn't get his face punched like the guy at Guitar Center! Oh wait a minute, that was for suggesting heavy guage strings. Lookout! He may have to come around and punch a bunch of you.

I prefer .11's as I get pretty rough, especially in live situations. They give the perfect amount of fight and hold their tuning better.
If it works for you use em! It doesn't matter what other people think.

You play what you want.
Use the right tools for the job.
I use Brightwire '10s on my LP's, but have 11's, 9's and 8's on other guitars.
Depends on the guitar and what I wanna use it fer.

NO, he tuned down half a step to acomadate his voice, it is much better suites in Eb, I bet you anything you like, you could not have play'd his guitar, Eb was no easier on the fingers with SRVs setup, he had the action super high, I mean high, his guitar tech actually modded his nut by raising it, so he could get more hight on the low E, you could get your pinky under the Low E at the 12th, your talking big amounts of pressure to get those suckers pushed down, 11s are piss easy, so are 12s, depends how you have them setup, most guys with thick strings have low actions, which beats the point of the object really, having 9s with a really high action will sounds as good as 11s with a low action, you need the height or it's pointless IMO, good tone can be had with 8s, look at billy gibons, Albert king was the one who told billy he was making hard work for no reason, he says he has never used thick strings since, they do sound better, but only the person playing them notices a great big difference, the punters will not hear it unless they are guitar freaks like our self's, sometimes I wonder if I am making hard work of it, as my action is high and I use 12s with a 54 Low E, but every time I go to stick 10s on, I end up taking them off after 30min's, as they sound thin, I would never use 9s though, way to thin for my liking, they are handy to floss you teath, and that's about it, 8s are good for cutting cheese

C'mon Louie, you know you love big ol' walls of text with no line breaks or format of any kind.

I use Dunlops special high-tension strings 12-54 and it feels and sounds great. I dont do any shredding or massive bends so Im quite happy to trade comfort for tone. That, and I have orangutang hands that will push thinner strings sharp when I get excited.

I've been using Brite Wire .09s on all my Les Pauls for the last two years. No complaints. Nothing but good.

Did I post? I forget.

I use 10s on the electrics and 12s on the acoustics. I don't do a lot of bending and I can't shred anyway.
