Thats a fair comment, but I think alot of people have bad nights. I give Hendrix some slack though, he was busting his ass on the road, criss crossing the country, touring in a station wagon (not a private jet), sure there were nights were he was just "punching the clock", and then there were the Montereys, the Woodstocks, the Berkeleys, the New Years Eve/Day Fillmore shows, etc etc
Yeah, maybe I was to harsh on old Jimi. maybe loose is a better term. You know, with Hendrix, I never think about how cool his tone is, or the technical stuff he pulls of, or technical perfection. It's the emotion and intensity. I don't even know how to exactly describe what it is with Hendrix. There is so much.
His songs vary, From old chitlin R&B type stuff, to his Curtis Mayfield little wing, castles made of sand rhythm stylings. His solo work, the sheer raw energy that he pulls of during voodoo chile, start spangled banner and machine gun. His lowdown blues stuff. The jazzy stuff.
The reverse are you experienced and castles made of sand solo's.
I like his demo stuff where it's just him on his guitar, the rhythmic drive that he has in every song.
And his songwriting. He lived the blues and that comes across in some of his songs, next to the raunchy saturday night fun of some of his other songs.
I don't like the jamtype stuff he did, mostly live. But I don't like that type of stuff in general. I never got into the Allman brothers because of that.
Shit, I just don't know.
