Who said something about the SMELL of LP's?

As many of you know, proud new owner of a '57 GTDB... And somewhere along the line, I recall seeing some mention made about the "smell" of new LP's. Now, sure, I've witnessed it first hand - several times - but as I just got my new ax home, and hung 'er on her respective hook in my sound room, I went back in the following morning and was blown away by this sweet, indescribable scent... It was the guitar. I even opened the case and remnants of the scent were in there too. But my sound room just smelled SOOOOOO good.

I wonder if anyone makes a "New Lester" air freshener. I think I'd buy it

By the way crew, the new ax hauls... Sustain for days, and sings like a dream when hammered hard in front of a 100W'er. The feedback and atmospheres I get are just awesome...

I know, on my studio the smell lasted for like 5 months. If I really get close to the case i can still smell it a little. I think that smell could be a chemical that brainwashes us to buy new gibsons!!!!!!!

Says you! My Classisc is almost 10 years old, and STILL has that "New Gibson Smell"!

I can put it in the case for a couple of days, and still be able to smell it like it's right under my nose.

never really noticed the smell of my Les Pauls, but my Martins. Now that's a sweet freaking smell when you open the case. Smells like a cured wood factory. Truly boner inspiring.

Historics smell different than USA's. My USA smelled like Cotton Candy, my Historic
smelled sweet, but with earthy overtones.

Yes, thats it! I am addicted to this kind of vanilla smell!

I noticed the same scent with my 09 R9, Vanilla.
If you really want the smell to last,put some vanilla essence in a small bowl and place it in the empty case with the lid closed, leave it for a few hours then remove the bowl.

It's the case. The Custom shop cases have that vanilla smell and still have it two years later on mine. The liftons do not smell that way.

My new Bloomie has that sweet earthy wood smell too. And on my 336 that smell just blossoms out of the F holes!

I always smell em before I play with them!

I guess I just get used to the smell after a while, because I stop smeeling it after a week or so. My new Gibson CSR acoustic had the greatest smell for like a month, but its starting to fade to me.

It does fade, but thankfully never really goes away, and sometimes it get's stronger with age.

My uncle has an LP that he bought new when I was around 2 or 3 or ('84-'85), and I can STILL remember how strong the smell was when he first opened the case. After a couple of years it started to fade a bit, but today it's stronger than ever.

I think it is the adhesive that smells. It's only in the custom shop case as far as I know.

I have 4 LPC cases... NONE of them smell like this new GT'57. I've smelled the case, I've smelled my guitar - the case barely smells, but the guitar itself is unreal. I love the smell of it - gets me high

IMO it's the silica gel bag which smells the most, thus being the scent I associate with LP's...
