Thanks Jonesy,

Hey, how do you recommend grounding these CTS push/pull pots?

I solder right to the top behind the little tab for an LP, or solder to the back where the indent is for SG cavities. Just don't let any solder run down inside one of the holes

Since this is going in an LP.....

Will, it's just that the SG's have a much shallower cavity, so it is more of a matter of room and getting the control cover back on. Either top or back of pot for an LP, it is still grounding to the case so you are good to go bro ;)

Any advice for soldering braided cable to the pot bodies? I haven't tried yet. I thought it would be better to ask first. Thanks guys.

Will,

DO NO OVERHEAT THE POTS...

If pots are coated, tarnished or dirty sand a spot clean before you Start soldering.

Put the braided on the back of the pot case, heat the case with your soldering iron (and have wire touching side of iron,) Apply heat...wait 1...2....3.. and then puddle some solder on the back of pot and it should soak right into the braided wire and bond to the back of the pot.

I REPEAT DO NOT OVER HEAT POTS OR YOU WILL RUIN THEM....

I used the 1...2...3. as example Will.

I use a 25 watt (fairly low power) Weller pencil style soldering iron, depends what you have.

Once that pot is heated up it's stays hot, and if you keep reapplying heat it get's hotter and hotter until the parts inside fry out.

I have had people ruin pot's on my wiring harness's that I have sent them because of over heating. Just wanted to pass that along to you.

Me!

However, I knew nothing when I tried to solder the harness together, it was a slap dash job. TAKE YOUR TIME.

I wasn't going to mention any names bro, and you are not the only one that has ever done that. Lesson learned right, it's all good next time you will know ;)

Damn right, should've asked first.

Ah well, I want your MSP harness, but it will have to wait till around Christmas time, I'm skint at the moment.

I'd love some push/pull pots, they're so impressive. :)

When you make mistakes I think they stick with you and you remember next time, that's how we all learn wether anyone wants to admit it or not ;)

You would have a blast with one of the MSP rigs Luke, just let me know when you are ready I would be glad to build a long shaft one for you.

Yeah, I'll remember the 1, 2, 3 method, seems to make sense.

I think I would too, but it would be short shaft, do you have any pre-made?

Luke.

EDIT: Any other prototype rigs you're coming up with in the near future?

Yeah that 1..2..3 is a rule I follow as well.

Normally all my rigs made to order, but I do have a short shaft single push pull rig I made for my SG with a dpdt in the bridge Tone that pulls out and puts both pu's out of phase when switch is in the middle. :hmm:

I have a few more things in the works but would rather not mention them here at this time :D

Hmm, I may considering taking that off your hands then. Was this in Alice before you put the MSP rig in?

Oh I see, well you could PM if you want, if not I totally understand. What's the ETA?

you CAN burn a pot easily by overheating it. Jason Lollar talks about it in his Youtubevideos. It's a very annoying and expensive occurance. Follow Jonesy advice.

No diagram for the two cap circuit, here is link to American Standard Strat Wiring...look at the little U jumper on middle right side of switch.
http://www.fender.com/support/diagrams/pdf_temp1/stratocaster/0107400_02C/SD0107400_02CPg2.pdf

You would leave the one cap right where it is, cut the jumper between tone pots and wire the cap on lower tone pot from center lug back to case and I think that should do it? On my 2003 American Strat I have the delta-tone circuit so it has jumper on switch, but I only have just the one cap. I replaced my stock cap with a Sprague HYREL PIO .022 and I like what that does for my Tone on all my pickups.

Hey Jonesy, would the diagram that you linked above be the one I want to use for the setup I got from you? I have no problems with the pup wiring, it's the pots/switch that I'm questioning. Thanks!
