bought a 2019/2020 production run tommy thayer electric blue in sept 2021 and it turned purple. this is not covered by warranty. just wanted to put this info out in case anyone didn't know this was possible. i think there was a new production run in 2021 - i don't know if any of those change color.

Weird but kinda cool! Possibly something to do with the weather conditions - humidity maybe?

That is wicked awful. A one year old guitar turning like that and Epiphone won't do anything about it ?

They had a similar problem with a batch of Sapphire Midnight Tribute Plus 60's. Some of them went from a nice deep blue to a faded unsaturated purplish bleh tint.

So it was blue in September and 2 months later it's purple?
Maybe epiphone can send you an " electric purple" waterslide graphic for the head stock

Not sure how I feel about the warranty issue but I wouldnt think that gibson/epiphone would do anything based on your pics-- everything is stripped off, even the nut-- if it had a warranty it most likely doesn't now.

before i posted here i searched the net for similar reports and came across two people with [chinese] LP's that had gotten in contact with epi/gibson and they told them it was a "dye problem in china" and that it wasn't covered by the warranty. the problem seems pretty rare - including myself only three reports on forums......ever. anyway those guys said their LP's turned brown and grey respectively over a longer period of time. my epi was 100% blue when i got it and over 3 months now has turned purple and i was keeping it in the case i got with it and not in the sun. if the guitar had gone purple within the return limits of sam ash i would've returned it but as it happened only at the three month mark did it look like this. i have a bunch of guitars and don't get out every one of them every day. so this one went about a month without me seeing it and......it's purple. it looked great blue and so far the sparkle is unaffected by the color change.

Strange indeed. I would have assumed the use of lightfast colors as that is now pretty commonplace, but light-stable blues are really expensive so Epi must have cut a corner. I like the purple (better than the blue, even) but of course it no longer matches the artiast guitar it is meant to resemble. Maybe Epi will change the formulation and your batch will become sought-after.

I definitely suspect non-lightfast dye as well. I originally though UV discoloration of the clear coat, but A) poly shouldn’t yellow that fast B) it was kept out of UV light and C) the binding didn’t yellow at all and D) blue and yellow make green, not purple

If I am correct- you posted on a different forum also ( screen name hippityhoppity) but you said that the back of the guitar had not changed like the front.
This is strange to me, seems more like something to do with light otherwise the whole guitar would have changed.
