Just a quick blurb - I ordered a Jackson Dinky for my son for Christmas from Sweetwater. Great price, great service and I'm happy about the 55-point check. Later, my mother-in-law wanted to order the Jackson hard case to go with it. To get it in her budget, I ordered it from Zzounds...Probably a few hours later. Both sites have 2-day shipping for free. Both sites have great customer service and selection. I had both items shipped to work so I could hide them and they wouldn't have to sit outside in the cold. Zzounds got the case to me in 2 days. I'm still waiting for the guitar.

So Zzounds ships from New Jersey and Sweetwater from Indiana. You'd think the Indiana shipment would get to Minneapolis a lot sooner. Both shipped Fedex, so who knows where the delay was. Well, I have an idea.

Anyway, the two sites so similar in selection and pricing, I'll probably choose Zzounds over Sweetwater because I know they don't sit on their stuff when it's ordered.

That stinks, I'm surprised, only in that I've had multiple purchases from them go off without a hitch. This is the second negative story I've read on Sweetwater in the past few years, so it must be rare for them to offer poor service.

You should have been assigned a representative from Sweetwater when you made the purchase, I'd start by contacting them directly.

I can't speak to ZZsounds as I've had no experience with them.

I've bought from both ZZ and Sweetwater. I order from the one that the price and availability I want.

MF has the closest warehouse, so I generally use them. If the item does come from that warehouse, I can get it within a day or two.

I even get from Amazon ... who sales from these stores as well as Sam Ash. Took a while to get a gig bag from Sam Ash through Amazon, but I got in time for Christmas.

I've read that shipping is starting to backup for the Holidays and one needs to expect later than normal delivery times.

Ordered a TON from Sweetwater. Being in Illinois, it has been a rare order that didn't get to me next day (if ordered before 2 or 3 p.m.). It has almost always been picked up by FedEx that first evening, and to me the next day. The time's it hasn't (maybe 3 or 4 out of 60 or 70), I ordered a little too late in the day, there was an issue with payment, they left a msg on the ph number on account (my home) but I didn't get until too late that day, or FedEx took their full 2 days. Never once had Sweetwater sit on an order.

I assume the concept of calling them didn't occur to you?

Did they ship it at the same time? Does Sweetwater do the inspection after you purchase it? Weather could also be an issue. Everything in Michigan has been delayed.

I was going to call if it didn't show up today. Not a big deal because it's going to sit until Christmas anyway, but like they say, you never get a 2nd chance to make a 1st impression.

I'm not sure when the inspection is done, so I could see a hold up, but not one long enough to make it arrive later than a NJ shipment. I suppose the NJ box could've been on a plane whereas the IN one was trucked.

SW typically does an inspection right before shipping, usually by your sales rep assigned. Then it is reboxed and put into shipping. Yes, it is likely FedEx ground, but your tracking number if you check it on FedEx will tell you.

I get stuff from Sweetwater next business day.

I’ll never order anything from zzsounds after the way their “customer service” specialist treated me over their fuckup.

I'll order some strings or parts from either of them without issue. Guitars, no thank you.

I called ZZounds today for a price match. I had an offer in writing from a well known reputable dealer. ZZounds would NOT match the price.

Zzounds gave me a pretty good discount on the case without any hesitation whereas Sweetwater wouldn't budge an inch.

It must be luck of the draw on who we get (and what kind of day they're having) when talking with customer service...

I'm probably biased, as Sweetwater is basically local to me, but I don't foresee myself buying anything from anyone other than them in the future. Great dealings in the past, and after touring the place, I was so impressed with the lengths they go to take care of their customers AND staff. That's a company I can support.

As long as you do not need customer service zz sounds is ok. God help you if you do. No one beats Sweetwater customer service in my experience. I will actually pay more for their items because service like theirs is hard to find these days.

I have used both of those retailers with no issues whatsoever. They have both been quick at a great price. Never a need to involve a customer service rep, so can’t speak to that. The only time I really had a bad experience was with Musicians Friend. My mother-in-law bought some marching percussion stuff there as a Christmas gift for my son one year. There was an issue with it, some missing pieces. When I called them, not one of them could come right out and admit that they didn’t know the first damn thing about marching percussion. They kept giving me the runaround, assuring me that they could take care of it, but I could tell they didn’t know what they were talking about. They wasted a lot of my time, and never solved the problem. I have done plenty of customer service in my day, and if I don’t have the answer, I come right out and admit it. Then I assure my customer that I will do my best to get them the answer they are looking for. Just be honest.

I have used both, and Sweetwater sends candy.

    Just sayin'
