ZZ Top early sound

    I just LOVE ZZ's first album. The guitars almost sound to me like they're doubled or something like that. Just big, fat tone. You know what I'm talking about!

    Billy's stage sound these days is all Marshall JMP1 pre-amps. The Crate amps on stage are just for show. Even the power amps he uses to drive the cabs are Marshalls.

    IIRC the "amp cabin" described earlier in the thread wasn't used until way into their career, so didn't figure in the early recordings.

    Only other thing to add is his love of tweed Fenders in the studio (and who can blame him).
