And so it begins. My first attempt at a refinish. The goal is to sand the front and back down to bare wood and then clearcoat. I started with the back first to see how it turns out. I guess if I screw up it's not a big deal. :naughty:
It's like this thing was painted with tar, takes forever to get this stuff off. Here's a pic.

Any pointers and tips from the pros are welcome. :thumb:

I've never done it, but would like to know how you're progressing with this little project of yours. What I would do first is take of the binding. Have no clue how to do it, but I'm sure some of the pros can tell.

For poly, definitely use Aircraft Stripper. That stuff will turn to goo and you can scrape it off easily (I'd recommend using a wooden scraper since that stuff is so gnarly it will melt plastic).

Yeah man, especially when you get to the top, the curves can get messed up really easily by sanding.

God no! It's a huge job to have to reinstall binding... you don't want that. I'd just mask the binding off real well with some tape before applying stripper to the paint.

If you use stripper on that guitar (tape or no tape) ... you WILL be replacing the binding.

    Paint stripper melts plastic.
It will eat tape too. ;)

I didnt catch on this was a real ZW Camo guitar! You could have just sold it and bought another well used LP and then re-finished that one. Probably would have made some money on the deal too.
