I know this is a les paul forum however I know most of you guys are pretty straight up with your answers so I thought I'd ask your opinons on strats. I was at the guitar store yesterday picking up a switch pedal for my amp and I decided to pickup a fender strat deluxe USA. I really liked the way it felt, really comfortable. More then my epi. Sounds really good too at least to me. The deluxe strat also has locking tuners and a button on the volume knob that connects the pickups in series. There is alot of combinations and sound differences on this strat. Almost bought it on the spot but decided to sleep on it.

1650.00 tax in. It's a cherry burst includes a setup, new strings, leather strap and a fight case. Anyone have experience with one of these? Are the Mexican models close to these or is the extra cash worth it?

    no, it's not.

MIM are an amazing value. There are differences, but not $1100 worth, IMHO. As stated regularly 'round these parts, guitars are individuals, and each one has it's own qualities. If you're in love with that one, it's probably pretty sweet! You might play a MIM and feel the same love; you might play 20 MIMs, and not find a match for the Am Std in question...

But definitely get SOME kinda Strat!!

I've got an American Deluxe Strat I picked up for $750 on craigslist. It's well worth the money, but I'm glad I bought used. I'd suggest checking out craigslist before buying new.

A strat is one of those guitars that can't be just middle of the road. It has to be stellar to sing like it should, yea I'm a Les Paul guy.

But, a sweet strat in the right hands is just f**king outstanding!

The comfort of the strat is second to none. You can get real good tones from a maple FB Strat with a set of 10 or all 11 strings with the right amp ****ing kills!

But HSS are just terrible, so you need that LP to get that fat HB sound!

The Custom Shop ones that I've played (61 reissues I think) are amazing, amazing, amazing. Killer tone and great vintage vibe despite having a 9.5 inch radius.

Even a mid grade level strat is great, all the strats i have, have been under $300, used and in great shape. I have mod'd one to make it my own thus far.
