I recently found out an old band mate of mine had passed.
We played in a band called Cherokee Rose. I was lucky enough to get his
1981 Custom. All original and lovingly played.
RIP Wylie. One of the best guys.

What can I say... I am sorry for your loss of a good friend. That's never easy. Been down that road myself...

But he thought enough of you to leave you that killer 81!
That side of the story really IS sweet. Congrats on your NOFGD!

You know I'm a pre-historic fan and owner of an 82 Standard so that part of me is really happy for you.

Play it in good health and reverence to your old friend, and mention him when you play out with it and you can't go wrong!

Sorry for your loss, that's never easy.

I know how you feel, I played in a band just out of high school for a few years. But I fell in love and quit the band, they took on another guitarist and continued on. I stayed in touch with all the guys though, they were my good friends. When we were all in our 30s our drummer, one of the closest of my friends got sick, he got a bad cough that wouldn't go away. He died of lung cancer a few months later. The line at the funeral home stretched out the door down the long sidewalk and down the street, it must have a 1/4 mile long! He was 33 and well loved by many...much too young to die.

That was over 25 years ago.

BTW...beautiful 80s Custom, and all original!! IMO those early 80s Customs are special guitars. I assume it's got Shaws?

Oh, and does it have the original low, wide frets?

I believe guitars can have a soul. Its formed through all the hours playing, work, creativity, and bonding with a real player-owner.

    Some call it mojo.
    Nonetheless its a beautiful thing.
Much better than a new one off the rack to me.

You can see those frets are pretty high for originals.

Yeah they're veritable railroad tracks compared to the original frets on my 81 Custom (even the nibs are worn down)! Lots of life left in those.

Nice guitar by the way. Classy finish and flip tuners!

81 I am thinking some of that may be the angel and lighting???

if not, those jokers are huge!!

69 I get there's some meat on them but are they really as high as they look in the pic....they look like JUMBO's in that shot...is that the bevel rising out of the nibs....they look like they are 1/8"??
