Looking for a 2000 Gibson Les Paul 58' Reissue with a black top.

Anyone have one of these they're looking to get rid of? Let me know!

Good luck in your search! There are 75 of them out there. Someone recently sold one here. Watch Reverb. You'd have to pry mine out of my cold dead hands...

I've been looking for one for 3 or 4 years and since they never ever surface in Europe, let alone Germany, I decided to help myself by having an R8 refinished in black and have a bright cherry back.

The lighter back can easily be had by buying a R7.

Good luck on your quest, those are so beautiful

There’s a few on reverb but they’re out of my price range for the time being. Still just a young sprout looking for quality instrument to gig with.

It would need a complete refin. It has a cherry back.

Found it, looks pretty nice. Might look into some reputable refin guys. Would prefer finding a blacktop but this is definitely a good option.

looks great with the black contrast. d1m1 did this with his old fiddle and called it the red bellied black snake. It's a little lighter red, not as bright as the recent ones, but looks great in my book

Im referring to the run that was made for Sam Ash I believe, that has a black top and cherry back.

And even a full refinish would not be bad, since that R8 is so cheap.

no, the Sam Ash run was specified natural back. In fact it's something inbetween in my book

OP: I refinished my 1996 Standard this way. Here is a pic while I was in the process...

I don't have a finished pic handy right now and it's currently out of state getting a VOS treatment. I guess this is to say, or ask, why does it have to be a historic that you refin? Getting an original ...yea, but $hit, get an old Standard to do this to. That is not saying in any way that an old Standard is a beater; it's to say they are fantastic and cost less than a historic. Plus, the historic won't be any closer in convincing anyone it's original anyway.

I think it looks great! The historics are the only ones that feel and sound right to my ear. Also, the 58’ neck fits like a glove and would rather not refin.
