But 61/62 LP SGs seem to be in short supply, or at least I don't see any in the MD/PA/DE/northern VA area. Anyone know of any for sale around here or shops that have a nice one to try? Seems like $10-$12k are the going rate for these depending on originality. This sound about right? Thanks!

You will see them listed for that and 3x as much but rarely sell for even 3/4 that much.

They always seem undevalued but they never are.

Tidewater, any good tips on good ones out there? I saw one in the classifieds here but it seemed like it was priced like an all original with a refinish. Not sure what is going on with that one.

Yeah I love that guitar but I could easily have done that whole package for about 7.5k.. but still..

There are many very clean ones around listing for around 11k that have been listed forever. There are very slightly lesser condition ones without breaks list for mid 9k. keep your eyes on Gbase and Reverb. I think if you could get Gil Southworth to answer a phone you could find one worth looking at. lol

I'll keep you in mind if I see anything right and reasonable.

    geddy,

In 2006 I had my 61-62 appraised by my expert luthier at $23K. Then the "great recession" hit the vintage guitar market, and the "blue book" price for a near mint one like mine fell to half of that, and doesn't seem to have recovered. If you can get one in decent shape for $10K or perhaps a little less, that would be my semi-educated guess as to value.
