OK Nobody can deny the importance America has in the development of modern music. In so many genres America is top dog. But in the Rock genre they seem to have failed to produce truly legendary global artists.
    Why is this?

The Eagles are beautiful songsmiths, lyricists and musicians but they work off a broad canvas, I can't class them as "Rock legends".

    Aerosmith and Van halen?...... Nah!

Eagles, The Doors, Guns N Roses, Nirvana, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, The Ramones. And if you want to talk solo artists, look no further then Bob Dylan, or Miles Davis.

Solo artists? Neither of those can touch either Chuck Berry or Elvis.

They are legends, with a capital "L" both of them, probably the greatest in their fields of work but the OP is asking for "American Rock legends"!!

Some great bands being named. However I don't see them as truly legendary.
Why? Because they didn't manage to last the course.

Both American, and I think as a songwriter, Dylan is outdone by few, if anyone at all.

Incidently, the Jimmi Hendrix Experience cannot be counted as an American Rock band as it was formed in London and the majority of the members were British!!!:thumb:
