I'm looking to get a strat type of guitar but only want to spend 300 max. I'm good with getting used as that's where I usually find my best deals. Who makes the best quality strat on that price range?

Go after a Fender Mexi strat. For the money you're looking at, they're probably the best quality.

Used Fender MIM, or new Squier. All others are pretenders.

If you ever resell, both brands are hard to sell used. A used Fender MIM, or Squier CV strat will be easer to sell, and already depreciated. Additionally, on both, just about every strat accessory will fit.

Fender. Get the used MIM and be done with it. Those are great guitars and, for the most part, accept Fender accessories. Only time stuff gets "weird" is when replace saddles....gotta make sure you get the right spacing for the bridge, etc.

The necks are great. The bodies are great. Stock, they get the job done VERY well, and can be modded to eternity easily.

No need to get anything other than used MIM Fender or Squier Classic Vibe. And, these are very good guitars.

depends on what you prefer. I went through a bunch of Fender strats: USA, MIM, MIJ, and could just not bond with them. Ended up flipping them all. I got a G&L Legacy ~3.5 years ago and it is never going anywhere. I have never played a G&L Tribute series, but if the neck profile is the same I imagine it would suffice.

Another vote for the MIM stuff. I own 2, ( okay 1 is a start, 1 is a Jazz bass ) No complaints with fit and finish, build quality, feel, playability and sound. Very upgradeable if that's your thing, but mine sound great stock.

    I've played a few Indo G&Ls -- they're good guitars, although I'm not sure they're $300 new.

My next guit will be a Strat ... used MiM, most likely.

I am a fan of G&L indo Tribute Legacies. I bought one for $250 used from GC and would recommend buying used. The parts are all American made- pups bridges etc- from what I have read. Necks are typically a 12radius which I like a bit better. The head stock is wonky but I got over it. It plays every bit as nice as my std strat. If you buy used it is hard to go wrong.

A used Squier CV for around $250 and your set. No need to look further. :)

Squire Classic Vibe!! I bought a used 60's CV in the sunburst finish off EBay last year for $250 with free shipping. Stays in tune sounds pretty good. I don't like the pickup hum too much so Im probably going to change out the pickups for some Fender Texas Specials in the future. Heck i even bpught a holographic "Custom" decal like SRV's #1 strat and put it on my CV. Nice inexpensive guitar. Very pleased with it.
