I always loved the warm springy sounds of Marshall and Lester that Gary Richrath used to play.
Him and Alex Lifeson would be the pair I try to emulate the most.

I've got the modern Alex tonez down pretty good, but ATWAS is still a goal.

For my part when I think about a Les Paul sound I am thinking more about these people and bands: Adam Jones (Tool) Billy Howerdel, James Iha (A perfect Circle, Smashing Pumpkins) Nine Inch Nails and Marilyn Manson , really great sounds from the 90's.

Ronno live in studio with a 200 watt Marshall and it still gives up that loose Fender-y tone with all of its Marshall-y break-up. Glorious. And genius performance.

I had an SG and a Marshall 2205. I never understood all the astonishment at "Slashtone". :dunno:

The 2205 had that scronky-ass mid-range, too much preamp gain, all day and all night. :hmm:

Lenny Kravitz and Craig Ross had some pretty inspirational LP tones.

This IS EXACTLY what prompted me to start this thread. I love the way a Les Paul sounds and wanted to get introduced to other players and bands where the Les Paul is featured. Always love discovering music I’d never heard before.

I prefer the tonal majesty of Professor James Page in his minor pentatonic period.

I've never heard a Les Paul sound more beautiful than in this man's hands . . .
