I have a set of double crème pickups inbound thanks to my birthday. I wanted the pickups for sound number one but I'm trying to decide between putting them in either my Ebony Trad Pro or Honeyburst Traditional. I was thinking the Honeyburst as the Ebony Trad Pro had been changed out to chrome covered as I didn't get on with the BB3 in the bridge but I'm just not sure. Just looking for some feedback from the bunch in general. I also have a Lemonburst Zebra Traditional that could be a candidate but I've done a swap there also. Pickups coming are Dimarzio 36th/SD set. Flame away on the choice too but I'm also a 490R/498T fan to give an indication of my tonal choices. Right now I have 490R/498T in the Ebony and the Lemonburst and tonally the guitars are working. Zebra 61's are actually in the Honeyburst Traditional right now thus its my number one choice for installation but I'm thinking the double cremes might 'look' better on the ebony. Too many choices...lol... Thoughts???
Honeyburst Trad is one the right that will get the double crème if I stay with plan A, those zebras are 61s which are just ok to me. I'm still thinking it will look good with the double cremes since its got some flame. As mentioned, Ebony one on the left already has the 490R/498Ts which is working sound wise, but like 'some' of us here I just get too hung up on looks sometimes hence this whole post. Found some other pics of 'flamey' Honeybursts online with double cremes and that does look cool. Thing in the middle is cool too, no changes required there but geez I should have found a different shot if I don't want to start MLP chaos...
honeyburst seems the best candidate to me... me too have creme bobbins under the covers of my ox4 on a lightburst trad.... and I'm tring hard NOT to take the covers away as the guitar is already almost too bright and sparkly with them on....
Yo GibbyKramer......... It's hard to see the gold screws with that cream pick guard bro, let the girl loose, ditch the pg man !!!
Thanks to everyone for the inputs and pictures. The double crèmes look great in both flamed and plain Honey bursts but still a tough choice ahead! Bobby M - the burst needs them tone wise so that's the plan I'll probably stick with even though I agree with GibsonKramer and a few others they also look fantastic on ebony. I'm excited to hear the set in either case and I'll get some pictures up and observations when completed. Will be interesting to see if an impulse choice strikes when they arrive but number one I'm looking for a sound. Interesting to see if they hit the mark for me. I was looking at boutique sets as well before this purchase but man that is some extra coin. I had considered the Holydiver or Emerald set and was going to seek more info but stepped back due to cost.
LOL... I hear you! 1all - is that the same guitar in all three pics? Seems almost plain top in first shot but second look it is the same one???
Yes, it is the same guitar in all 3 shots. The flametop on my Honey Burst Trad (ie, this guitar) is like that... very much a peek-a-boo top... from certain angles it looks like a plaintop, from others it looks like a AAA flametop... it’s just one of the *many* things I love about this guitar!
