Wouldn't it be smarter to offer these in the Epiphone brand instead?
The Epiphone-guys do have more/better taste.....
I dig the first and third finishes the most out of all of them.
It can always get worse. Say hello to next years Custom Shop Juniors.
Or Belgian colors.
Also, I'm kind of digging the A Team one. Probably more for nostalgic reasons, though.
At 5k I most certainly wouldn't buy one, obviously. Not only because I don't have 5k to spend for one, but more because of other guitars I can get for that money
(like an R9 or an ebony LPC).
To be honest I don't think i will ever buy a new Gibson again. I love my Traditional Goldtop that bought new for £1799 in 2011 but I nearly put another 700 to it for a used Marc Bolan Signature. One came up recently on fleebay for nearly 6 grand and a Paul Kosoff for 8000. Seriously Gibson are handing their market share over to PRS in my opinion.
I can picture one in the Gulf livery of the GT40 in your pic. That would look sweet.
I think I have spotted one of the 2019 models
Now, I'd buy that!
I've been more-or-less offline for a few weeks so only just catching up with this thread.
What the actual f***...?!
Like many here, the funky paint-jobs aren't for me but, equally, I don't see them as a total disaster-area. What makes no sense, though, is pitching them as Custom models at Custom-shop prices. Somewhere down the lower-end of the market as '70s Tributes might have even been kinda fun!
I'm certainly not an out-and-out "hater" of anything that *isn't* a traditional Lester with a 'burst finish; I even like some of what Gibson has been trying to do of late...
I wouldn't buy one of these myself but I don't dislike it:
I wasn't the biggest fan of the Modern Double Cut but this Custom version I actually sort of like (although not at that price) and, yes, PRS...
Finally, this kinda appeals to me too -- it's clearly Gibson-y but a bit updated.
I do have to wonder why on Earth they didn't use THIS slightly more in-line headstock variant for the Modern Double Cut? Maybe it would have just reinforced the whole PRS-knock-off argument? Oh well...
This just made me laugh though:
If Gibson really want to do models in retro, culturally significant colours then it's just begging to be made in Kirk Gold, Spock Blue and Scotty Red! (Complete with milled aluminium top hats, graded from "Stun" to "Kill")
No-one with any Trek knowledge at all would *dare* to buy a Red one, just in case...
I love the first and third. Do you have a link for the third one? I've never seen it before.
Scotty wore red and never seemed to meet the same fate as the other red shirts, lol
I demand they bring back the Zoot! In ALL models... ALL of em....
If you gonna market crazy, go full bore pudding pop....
Please...NO...don't give them any ideas!!!
They’re calling it the “Modern Archtop.” Carved spruce top on a carved mahogany body. Apparently. I rather like it! And I like the tapering headstock with straighter string-pull.
(Although at a list price of $4999, I won’t be getting one anytime soon...)
The vintage sunburst colour-scheme is actually called “Argentine Gray” (according to the website) but it’s also available in Sparkling Burgundy, which looks pretty good too:
Given the choice, I think I’d probably take the Burgundy!
I'm waiting for the Mother, Jugs & Speed version - That'll sell a ton :thumb
I'm holding steady for the BJ And The Bear limited edition
