Good music is good music. If certain types of culture make you grind your teeth, it isn't the music that is the problem.

    *****

I recorded some guitar tracks for a hip hop producer. He liked some of the R&B type riff and chord progressions I had. But he really wanted funk/wah 70's porn type tracks or Death/Thrash/Speed metal.

We recorded a bunch of my stuff. I was hoping he would use something he liked as a sample or loop, but I never heard if he did or not. He made backing tracks for urban TV and Radio commercials. His work was usually very, very catchy, like the examples above.

    Any Childish Gambino fans?
I haven't heard much of his stuff to be honest. I just know the guys very talented.
Write, actor, stand up comedian, rapper.
I heard him do a freestyle on youtube on a radio show. I was pretty impressed.
And I really like this one. Music, lyrics. Both good.

edit to add the freestyle video:

I think that one was originally released on Grand Royal, right? After they left Def Jam. Wow! That's awesome, Freddy.

I think their "Paul's Boutique" album holds a special place in music history because it sampled SO MANY very very well known songs and was done before the laws on sampling copyrighted material were sorted out. It could be considered the last album to "get away" with that sort of heavily sampled production using known tracks.

Yeah you are correct. Their actual label for that record was Grand Royal. Mrs. G worked for EMI which was the big parent company for Grand Royal.

Ill Communication was one of my favorites as a kid. I think I'm a bit more partial to Check Yer Head these days.

Jedi Mind Tricks - Violent By Design is a good album also. A lot of good ones out there honestly.

How about Erik B. And Rakim? Great stuff!

I'm not a huge rap fan but I could name the classics that have been named over and over so maybe I'll go more modern.

I think this song has a good message for people who are in need of help.

The rap fans are growing at MLP. Every thread has more positive replies and less negative ones. I love it!
