    Great thread. Here's my story:

I was 15, and I'd been making noise around the house about wanting to learn guitar. No one took me seriously, it was a big joke to all the grownups. Except for Gary. I came home from school one day to find his 1967 Guild M-20 on my bed, next to a big blue copy of Eagles Complete. Inside the cover was a leaf of paper, with a few chord shapes on it and some fingering pointers.

"Outlaw Man" was my first victory, and I never looked back. He's the only person from that generation of his family of hippie addicts for whom I have even a shred of respect, and that Guild is still my #1 acoustic. Thanks for not being a douchebag and getting me started on the greatest adventure of my life, Gary. :dude:

Folsom Prison Blues as well here. If it was Johnny Cash, I was gonna learn it.

I think it was "Down in the valley" from a Mel Bay instruction book, I'm not sure. It might have of been "pictures of matchstick men" by Status Quo.

    Teenage Dirtbag by Weezer.
I was in some sort of Punk phase, 4 years ago.

Now I mainly listen to blues - hard rock and everything in between. Some classic metal also involved.

The first song I ever learned was "Nothing Else Matters" by Metallica.
learned it on an acoustic, so my fingers took a helluva beating, but really helped in the long run.
