I have the possible opportunity to grab an Ibanez RG550 from 1990, what would be a good price to offer? It's said to have a couple of nicks in the paint shown by photos. It's in another state so I can't really confirm playability or neck condition other than what I'm told in the description. Asking price is $450.

I should say I don't really need another guitar but when has THAT ever been a deciding factor? It IS a color I really like...

Pictures of it would be nice. It possibly would need fret work if it's that old, unless he has already done that. I had the exact guitar in the Nickel color, which I purchased brand new for $650 with a hard case. I sold it at a pawn shop for $300, because I tried to sell it on craigslist for like 5 months for $500 OBO, then $400 OBO, then $350 or OBO. No bites, so I ended up getting $300 at a pawn shop. It needed work done even though I kept it pristine, it also needed fret work or new frets and I just did not want to pay the $500-$600 to do it.

Oh yeah, good point. I seem to have trouble posting pics from Imgur...it's hit or miss, but let me give it a shot.

Yes I did, prices seem to be all over the place.

Huh, it did. That dirty fret board has me leery...I'm waiting to hear back about it.

I figure I can refinish it to take of these chips.

I know the pics a blurry and I'm hoping they aren't hiding anything else.

Yep, that guitar was played, which is why the fretboard has a couple worn spots. I have seen worse for sure, but it may need re-fret which is why sometimes people sell. Then they just purchase a new axe that feels and plays sweet. Does it come with the case? I think would offer $350, I don't think I would pay more than $400 for sure.

Ooops, sorry, mine was an RG570, which had the upgraded Floyd Rose on it compared to the RG550.

Yes, it comes with the original case. 350 was what I offered, I've not heard back yet.

    Early 90's Ibanez?
for that price, even just to 'noodle' around with? Seems ok.

That looks to be in pretty good shape for a 27 year old guitar. Those fretboards ALWAYS get dirty. They had a very thin finish on them. I had an '88 550 and the fingerboard was dirty after two years of playing it everyday. I still have an '88 560, and it is nowhere near needing frets.

If you want it, $450 is fine. Ibanez guitars from that period are amazing...equal to the Prestige guitars of today.

Have you played a wizard neck before? I have a couple JEMs that I thought had similar necks. I was surprised by how much that wasn't true.

I'm talking about the neck on the RG feels very different than the neck of my JEMs. The wizard necks are very thin.

Yes, I have an early nineties S540 that has a Wizard neck and I agree it is very thin. What comes on the JEM, a Wizard III?

Just called a JEM neck. My JEMs are early though so I don't know what's on the more modern ones.

If you ever want to go cross florida I have an amazing JEM I want to sell. I'm too lazy and too frustrated with Craigslist to post it now.
