What Makes a High Gain Amp Sound Clear?

    My guess in this case is that he Vox is mostly a cleaner preamp, so any distortion you’re hearing is power amp distortion, which (for classic rock) is awesome. The Orange probably mixes a lot of preamp and power amp dirt, when you’re up to volume.

    If you mean what makes an amp sound less noisy and fizzy while pushed, I'd like to know that as well. That's perhaps the most important thing to me when I'm looking for an amp. A high gain amp with little noise and no "fizz" when you hold a note. My Bogner ATMA head does it very well and that's why it's my go-to amp. Noisy amps are not my thing.
