I'm a semi-retired pro. I play jazz and blues mostly, but I'm a hired gun so if you'll pay, I'll play. On my 98 Epi LP standard I'm running Ernie Ball 9-42s for brightness. On my 08 Custom I'm using D'Addario NYXL 9-42. I also use the NYXLs on my Gibsons and Rev Willys no. 7s on my Fenders.

I primarily play EB Super Slinky (9's) on my Fenders and I use D'Addario 9.5's on my shorter scale Gibson and Epiphone guitars.

    Seems to work out. YMMV

Are you tuning to standard with this? I like these strings but, I use a set up a bit different from this gauge. The d and E are 32, 54 respectively. The rest is the same. And I use this for D standard.

Thomastik Infeld Blues Sliders !!!! 9-43 Just LOVE these strings!
Sound and feel so good. More expensive than most, but they last such a long time and work so well I don't feel the price is an issue. That's me!

I've been using Thomann's own brand and I like them.
Also cost 80% less than Ernie ballbag who have to pay for the heavy advertising somehow, so they get suckers to buy them.

Lmao. I love statements like this.
"What I use is SOOOO much better than what everybody else uses."
If everybody who plays Ernie Ball is a sucker...well, that's a lot of suckers.
You saying that is basically the same thing as "everybody who plays an ebony custom is a sucker, because that's not what I play."
So enjoy that way of thinking. I'm sure you'll gain a lot of respect around here that way.

I tried Eb and Drop C# with Ernie Ball 8-38's on my Epi LPC once. It was kind of hilarious. Didn't take long to break that high E though...

I always have enjoyed the tone and longevity that I get from D'Addario EXL110s. I've just ordered up some of the EXL110BT "balanced tension" sets to try out. I guess that I never knew that the regular sets did not have the same tension on each string, and that possibly explains why only certain strings always drift on my guitars.

I've got three Fenders and the Epi LP. I use 9-42 on the Fenders and 10-46 on the Epi.

I read an article a good few years ago in a magazine that basically said there wasn't a world of difference and guitar strings from one big name to the other. I know everybody has their favorite, and some people are so particular, it would be fun to do a blind test, see if people can really tell the difference.
