Anyone care to speculate on the headstock marquetry- a badly filled hanging hook?

Serial number is defaced. Possibly stolen.

The SN defacing would concern me. It'd be nice to get a close-up of the neck/headstock transition to check for breaks, too.

Talked to the seller this morning, going to look at it today. The headstock was like that when he got the guitar in 1981 so if it was stolen it was close to 40 years ago. I'll let you know how it turns out.

kris, what do you make of that logo on the OP possible purchase?

ad was removed , hopefully the OP got it, wished i would have grabbed more pics

im goin with the guy had his pen knife out and scraped off the gold layer of the logo, then flipped it over and kept carving on the serial #, marking his territory....:dunno:

So I went and checked it out, needs a refret, other than that it's solid, no headstock break or anything like that. Didn't have the cash and of course he wouldn't take a check, supposed to get it tomorrow, he came down to $1600 because of the frets. Only have 2 pics left he sent me in an email.

The cavity looks legit. I just put the minis back into my '71 last night after a few years with P90s. I acquired a '72 LPC '54 RI which filled the P90 space, so the Deluxe went back to her original setup.

How do you rate the minis just after P90s?

I backed out on it. Too many question marks. We just met in a parking lot so couldn't plug it in, frets were toast, some had divots almost down to the board, it had corroded strings, way out of tune with the bridge ridiculously high and still buzzed like crazy. The real deal breaker for me was the neck seamed twisted, it was pretty straight on the first string side with bigtime relief on the other. The seller didn't know about the truss rod, owned it for 36 years and never had the cover off. I didn't have any tools to check it, and besides that it was about 15 degrees outside looking at it. Just had too many unknowns for me. Give me 15 minutes with it inside, with an amp, a Philips head, and a truss rod wrench and I might have loved it. Anyhow, he had a backup buyer so it went right away. It was an awesome looking Goldtop, but I was looking for something pretty much ready to play.
